Keeping Al and the old core would have meant staying at the same level. And staying at the same level means not getting better FOR SURE. By mixing things up you at least get a chance to get better. Of course you can get worse, and so what? did we jeopardize our future financial situation? No did we jeopardize our future draft situation? Btw I'm really trying to figure out the rationale behind Al's choice: - I would have understood if he did it for money, but we offered 136 in 5y vis-à-vis 113 in 4y. Now, given that I don't think he expects to earn a $(136-113)=23 M yearly salary when he'll be 34, it's not about $$$$$$$$. - He has always claimed to be a PF. Now that we finally offered him that spot, he chose Boston, a team w/o a true C (or a decent one). So it's not about his role. - He didn't like Atl signing Dwight Howard. There's nothing wrong with it, I would have understood. But for god's sake, why he didn't point that out EX ANTE? Hinrich is a 3rd PG, not a backup . J Terry is a SG who played PG just because of Harden. There are not so many good fits out there for us ( a PG who can play the pick and roll and has size), not so easy to find a name, so we will probably settle with a not-so-perfect guy.
