Plainview1981
Where did that rumor come from??
Nicholasp27
just combining the following 4 pieces of info a) rumor that artest going to gs and murphy leaving b) the fact that murphy is byc so they need a 3rd team c) the fact that some in indy want al for artest d) the fact that all 3 teams dropped someone on the same day
tmac13
Well, today was the cut off for contracts being guaranteed for the entire season ..I assumed that was the reason for all the cuts.
exodus
Quote: b) the fact that murphy is byc so they need a 3rd team They don't need a third team. They just need to add a player to make the salaries match. Murphy makes around $7 million, so they could only take back $3.5 mil. And the salaries have to be within 25%. If I am not mistaken a trade of Artest for Murphy/Petrius works under the cap rules.
Nicholasp27
that could very well be the reason the cuts may not be due to any trades; i'm just speculating
Nicholasp27
not according to realgm's trade checker murphy/pietrus for artest fails
exodus
Not sure if it is within 25%. They might have to do a throw in to make it work, but they don't need another team. If I had to bet I would say a direct GS-Indy deal is the most likely.
Ralph
It won't work. They need a third team with cap space to absorb the difference in the salaries. For Indiana, the deal is: Murphy = Artest. Murphy is BYC. So For Golden State the deal is: Murphy = 1/2Artest or 2 Murphy = Artest. so Golden State can only take back 1/2 of the value for Murphy. So you were correct to say that Pietrus must be added to equal out the Artest value for Golden State. However, Indiana cannot take Murphy + Pietrus for Artest. For them, the equation is still Murphy = Artest. So there has to be a team who can accept Pietrus or a similar salary. That's where we come in. We have cap room because of the Collier tragedy and the cap space we had before that. I don't know if it equals Pietrus, but I think we have cap space and Indiana doesn't. kevinmiu
I think most teams dropped someone. It's the day before guaranteed salaries kick in...and...John Thomas...you get the point.

Final_quest
There were a couple other teams that dropped players, but not many. I think I saw the Cavs, Hornets, and maybe one other team drop a player so far.
exodus
Whatever the trade is it should happen soon. I can't imagine them waiting until the deadline. Just imagine how annoying the wait is for the teams involved.
