b) the fact that murphy is byc so they need a 3rd team

They don't need a third team. They just need to add a player to make the salaries match. Murphy makes around $7 million, so they could only take back $3.5 mil. And the salaries have to be within 25%.

If I am not mistaken a trade of Artest for Murphy/Petrius works under the cap rules.

It won't work.

They need a third team with cap space to absorb the difference in the salaries.

For Indiana, the deal is:

Murphy = Artest.

Murphy is BYC.

So For Golden State the deal is:

Murphy = 1/2Artest or 2 Murphy = Artest.

so Golden State can only take back 1/2 of the value for Murphy.

So you were correct to say that Pietrus must be added to equal out the Artest value for Golden State.

However, Indiana cannot take Murphy + Pietrus for Artest.

For them, the equation is still

Murphy = Artest.

So there has to be a team who can accept Pietrus or a similar salary.

That's where we come in. We have cap room because of the Collier tragedy and the cap space we had before that. I don't know if it equals Pietrus, but I think we have cap space and Indiana doesn't.

They might have to do a throw in to make it work, but they don't need another team.

If I had to bet I would say a direct GS-Indy deal is the most likely.

no, they need a cap-space team to absorb some salary to make it work

try to find ANY combo that is indy/gs only with murphy going to indy and artest going to gs that works
