cyman3
ok, we all know that our roster isint that offensively talented. I mean... c'mon- take out 1 of the big 3 (JT/SAR/ROBINSON) and we would be looking at 70-80 ppg like Detroit Pistons. After the big 3, no one is capable of scoring 10 ppg on a nightly basis (henderson and newble/glover are the next best options). We also dont have any intentions of playing defense, we all can see that in any of the hawks games. That being said, should we turn into last years dallas mavericks (team that can put up 110 points, but also give up 110 points)? instead of bringing in defensive minded players like NEWBLE/HAM, should we look for offensive minded players and re-evaluate our roster? Playmaker0017
Cyman, If you watch every night, I think we are ALL OFFENSIVE. I haven't seen a much more offensive sight since... well... since .... they are pretty darn offensive to watch. Play.
Premium Member Diesel Posted January 18, 2003 Premium Member Report Share Posted January 18, 2003 Yes. It would take too much to switch to a better defensive team. Plus, our players are losing value on the market for whatever reasons.
KB21
And that's the direction this team needs to head. For all the flair the Mavs play with and all the wins they will collect this season, when they run up against the Kings in the playoffs, they will get beat. Why? Because, not only is Sacto good offensively, they are a very good defensive team. They are #2 in opponent FG% and #2 in opp 3P%. Even Dallas realizes this to some extent, because they do have Adreian Griffin starting at the shooting guard position over Nick Van Excel. Premium Member Diesel Posted January 18, 2003 Premium Member Report Share Posted January 18, 2003 If Defense won championships..... Philly should have easily beaten LAL in their finals. I think offense and offensive maturity wins championships. Just like Last night. Yao defense was good... However, Francis' offense and ability to take the ball right to the Lakers is what won the game.
Guest
I believe there is only one team averaging 100PPG so the league surely isn't built on offense.
KB21
Philly didn't beat LA because they didn't match up at all with LA. LA's offense was superior, but LA also had a great defense. It's not a coincidence that the better defensive teams are the best teams in the NBA right now: New Jersey, Indiana, and Detroit in the East. Sacramento, Dallas (13th in scoring, 5th in FG%), and San Antonio in the West.
KB21
Dallas and Sacramento. But Dallas is 5th in opponents FG% (42%), and 13th in opponents scoring (~92 ppg). Sacramento is 2nd in opponents FG% (40%), and 12th in opponents scoring (~92 ppg). Defense wins.
Admin chillzatl Posted January 18, 2003 Admin Report Share Posted January 18, 2003 Say what you will about Lon. But we sure scored a lot more points under him than we do under stotts. Granted, we gave up a lot more then than we do not, BUT NOT MUCH!
Premium Member Diesel Posted January 19, 2003 Premium Member Report Share Posted January 19, 2003 If the league is averaging 87 points and there's one team scoring over 100 and a whole lot scoring >96... then your statement is wrong.
Premium Member Diesel Posted January 19, 2003 Premium Member Report Share Posted January 19, 2003 In reply to:It's not a coincidence that the better defensive teams are the best teams in the NBA right now: New Jersey, Indiana, and Detroit in the East. Sacramento, Dallas (13th in scoring, 5th in FG%), and San Antonio in the West. How misleading? Dallas: Ranked #1 in PPG, #13 in defensive ppg. Sacramento: Ranked #2 in PPG, # 12 in defensive ppg. Indiana: Ranked #4 in ppg, #15 in defensive ppg. New Jersey: Ranked #6 in ppg, #6 in defensive ppg. San Anton: Ranked #16 in ppg, #3 in defensive ppg. Detroit: Ranked #25 in ppg, #1 in defensive ppg. Now. IF defense could win games... Why is Denver who is ranked # 2 in defensive ppg and #19 in Defensive FG%.... 10-29 and currently the 28 ranked team in the league? The truth of the matter is yes a balance is needed however, that Balance leans onto the side of Offense.
KB21
You're not going to win a championship without playing good defense. It's that simple.
