Premium Member mrhonline Posted February 5, 2003 Premium Member Report Share Posted February 5, 2003 Rahim - 26, 6'9" 240 Randolph - 6'9" 253+ (according to espn.com) Per 48 minutes (just for the sake of comparing) Rahim - 48% FG, 34% 3FG, 82% FT, 1.2 Steals, 0.6 Blocks, 3.5 turnovers, 3.9 fouls, 10.2 Rebounds, 3.6 Assists, 25.1 Points Randolph - 47% FG, 0% 3FG, 80% FT, 1.8 Steals, 0.5 Blocks, 2.0 turnovers, 5.5 Fouls, 11.7 Rebounds, 1.2 Assists, 23.1 Points. Shareef apparently passes better (based on the numbers) and can hit the occasional three, but he turns the ball over more as well. Randolph is more of post player, but doesn't appear to be that much a dropoff in points...
Admin chillzatl Posted February 5, 2003 Admin Report Share Posted February 5, 2003 There's a difference in projected stats and REAL stats. Look at the other guys around Randolph and ask yourself if thsoe guys are even remotely as good as Reef. Donyell marshall, Corliss williamson, juwan howard? Reefs Per 48 stats aren't far off from his actual season stats. Most of the guys below him are WAY OFF from their season stats. big difference there
Premium Member mrhonline Posted February 5, 2003 Author Premium Member Report Share Posted February 5, 2003 That was so predictable. Of course I know the limitations of using these kind of statistics. The point is that Randolph would play twice as much in Atlanta & vs. weaker opponents...The gap between the two player's stats are already closer than I expected. Plus, to add Derek Anderson for relatively the same amount of $, the Hawks would get two contributors for the price of one.
Premium Member Diesel Posted February 6, 2003 Premium Member Report Share Posted February 6, 2003 Fouls? Will Randolph stay in foul trouble? Assists? Will we miss SAR's assists? Points? Could Randolph be counted on as more than a 4th option? Finally, the biggest concern with these projections is that normally, per 48 doesn't translate. A great example is Travis Best. As a BU PG, he would come in for Jackson and put up phenomenal numbers. Many felt that once he started starting he would be better than Jackson ever was... Unfortunately... That didn't translate. The same applies to Kenny Thomas.
