Croce denies it, but the new owner may have contacted Croce about running the team.

That would be a great move. The 76ers didn't take off till Pat Croce took over as their team president.

Pat Croce knows how to market his team, and he did a great job of getting the basketball minds in place in Philly to run that team and change that team's fortune.

Wow, I'd be ecstatic if we convinced Croce to come here.

He's a true fan of the game, a great businessman, and an exciting personality. He was Mark Cuban before Cuban came along.

I think he's got a bitter taste in his mouth from Philly (and Slamball, heh) and would love to get back in the game.

Imagine if we could get Croce and Larry Brown in here. shocked.gif

I can dream, can't I?

I think Larry Brown is a great coach, but I don't know if he would be right for the team that is in Atlanta right now.

We know he will come in and preach defense, ball control, and build the team around the talent he has. But, we also know that he's in his 60s, doesn't stay in one place very long, and is considering retirment.

Personaly, I'd rather make a move that will be more long term. I'd rather not put up with the "Will Larry Brown Retire" questions at the end of every season. I'd rather not be looking for yet another head coach 4 years down the road because Brown has either retired or gone to another team.

I just don't think he's the guy for this job.

Now that Doc Rivers is pretty much out of the running, I'd put Silas and Fratello on the top of my list. Outside of those two, I'd rather just keep Terry Stotts. I think the team progressed under him, and I think that he could lead this team into the playoffs much like Frank Johnson did with the Suns this season.

You're both right, and I have to agree.

I just mentioned Brown's name because on his connection with Croce.

Brown is getting up there, and I would like to have a younger coach, one that will give us the stability that we have lacked over the past few years.

Give me Silas, Fratello, or Stotts; in that order. Dunleavy ranks somewhere just below Jerry Glanville.

I'm not overly impressed with Frank Johnson anyway.

Get rid of Stotts and bring in somebody will coaching

and winning experience...The heck with Stotts/Kruger/

Floyd and all these other guys.

I agree, I suppose. We really need someone who is a

great, young, very experienced coach who can mold

a winner from whatever players that are available to him.

We really need young, tough, very athletic players who

are willing and able to do whatever this coach wants them

to do to be able to completely dominate every other team

on the planet earth.

We can dream, can't we!!!

Back to reality. Hawks new owner must find someone

who is available and willing to come here as coach.

Someone who the new owner believes will take what

talent we have available and what we can obtain in trades,

mold them into the best team possible as soon as

possible.

These three coaches seem to be the ones available who

fit that description -- Silas, Fratello or Stotts.

There may be others. If you were the new owner, who

would you hire, and why. Remember, it must be someone

willing to take the job as head coach of these Hawks.

I await your reply.

We need a coach that will challenge players...I don't

think Stotts does that. The truth is that he seems

fairly laid back.We need a coach who can demand

respect from the players...Stotts hasn't done any-

thing to deserve respect as a head coach. We have

players that need to be fired up.Stotts isn't going

to put fire into the players.

Keep Stotts seems like the "right thing to do"as far

as the good ole boys type of things go.To win you

have to go get one of the best guys...Stotts hasn't

proved that he is one of the best coaches.

I'd probably bring Mike back to Atlanta.I think he has

what it takes plus I consider him a Hawk for life. He's

the Hawks coach IMO.

For that reason, I think that Brown would be good. You say Brown is in his 60s blah blah blah... But Brown is still hungry. What I do suspect is that he would trade down this whole squad. Starting with JT.

In place of that, I agree that Silas and Fratello should be on the top of everyone's list. I would take Fratello over Silas. Not that Silas is a bad coach at all. I just think that Fratello has the will to develop more. And that's what it will take for us. We have lots of players that need developing. SAR needs to develop into a franchise player. JT needs to develop into a PG. Grob needs to develop into a team player. The draft pick will need development.

If we developed right, we'd be in a good enough position to NOT waste a pick in this draft.
