Hawks Buzz on the Web

1) CNN SI - Jack McCollom on what he would give NBA teams for Christmas:

Atlanta Hawks -- Shh. Don't give them anything. Don't say anything about them. Don't pay any attention to them. They're getting better, and the one thing that can derail them is if opponents start taking them seriously.

2) ESPN – Simmons commenting on the top 50 players and their ability to be traded:

Ray Felton, Danny Granger, Marvin Williams, LaMarcus Aldridge: All quality bargains because they're still on the rookie scale. Do you see any of them ever making an All-Star team? Me neither. Out of everyone on this list, I like Granger the most ...

25. Al Horford

His ceiling: Elton Brand with a better low-post game. I loved how he was traumatized by his inadvertent role in T.J. Ford's latest injury and spent most of the night with Ford at the hospital to make sure he was OK. You want guys like that on your team.

23. Josh Smith

His ceiling: Andrei Kirilenko with a better everything. Although the sourpuss worries me. Would you want to pay someone $75 million this summer when he always looks like he just got rear-ended in his car?

3) Washington Post - The Perfect Atlanta Hawks roster

http://blog.washingtonpost.com/wizardsinsi...hawks.html#more

Starting Five:

PG Chris Paul (taken in 2005 instead of Marvin Williams)

SG Joe Johnson

SF Josh Howard (taken in 2003 instead of Boris Diaw)

PF Josh Smith

C Al Horford

Bench: Luol Deng (taken in 2004 instead of Josh Childress), Brandon Roy (taken in 2006 instead of Sheldon Williams), Rajon Rondo (taken in 2006 with the draft pick the Hawks sent to Phoenix), Monta Ellis (taken in the second round of 2005 instead of Salim Stoudamire), Paul Milsap (taken in the second round of 2006 instead of Solomon Jones) and Zaza Pachulia.

Just like everything in life - with success comes scrutiny. The rest of the league sees our success and says two things: With so many draft picks – who wouldn’t be climbing out of the cellar and we have messed up the picks we have gotten anyway.

The rest of the league is correct –

Until we surpass perceived expectations of where we could have been with Paul, then this conversation will always come up. After all, we have the same players, coach, general manager, and roughly the same ownership so we are in essence saying, “No body has messed up so badly around here that we wanted to get rid of them.”

To get this monkey off or our backs we have to do one of two things

1. Fire Billy or trade some of his picks

2. Make a deep run with the roster we have

Winning corrects personnel errors – just ask Detroit, Toronto, and Chicago. What would Detroit look like with Melo, Toronto with Carter, or Chicago if they had kept Chandler? It doesn’t matter because they overcame those mistakes by making a run with the roster they had. We have not – and our recent success has people at least talking about us again.

Billy Knight has done a great job with this team. No one knows how players will develop in the league. One of the greatest QB's in NFL history was chosen in the 7th round. Teams get lucky. To suggest firing Billy Knight when our team is full of guys we can root for and have fun doing it, and trade guys who are damn good basketball players is outrageous. I look forward to watching them now as opposed to the last few several years. That wasn't a typo. The best part...WE'RE MOVING UP IN THE STANDINGS...LIKE A SPEEDING BULLET...UNNOTICED.

But here you are, harping on who we didn't pick. So let's fire our GM and Coach.

Brilliant.

This is unreal. He is a man as Smoove said and brings his lunch pale every night to do the things the team needs.

Yeah DrR...these analysis' are stupid. Elton Brand with a better low post game. How much better? Jeez that could put him in the HOF.

Kirilenko with a better everything? So what's that saying about JS's ceiling? That could describe James Worthy???
