He'll be nothing more than a role player - especially in the East where all of the 5s (even the smaller ones) have an inside game. We don't need him to be. This team has their starting lineup of the future if they can re-sign Josh Smith. What we need is DEPTH. Re-signing Josh Childress in addition to Smith alongside this guy could give us some serious depth. Also it would be nice if Solo was given a shot and developed

Admin
The last thing the Hawks need is another guy with a non-traditional spelling of his name. Hawksquawk will be filled with posts about Anderson and filled with posts of people correcting them. We need to stick to players with names that are easy to spell for some people. By the time Horford is a FA, the cap should be raised anyways

You're funny man. I never did understand why you somehow took it personally that I wanted to let fellow hawks fans know what was said at the meetings. Anyhow I had other sh!t to do. You're funny man. thefloydian
Quote: Smith could play the three in this line up because his lack of a jump shot would be offset by Anderson's ability to shoot. Exactly. This is why I want to see this happen.
thefloydian
Here's a vid of him beating up on a bunch of euros if anyone wants to see him in action: He looks a lot more athletic than Zaza.
DrReality
If it happens . . . . we definately need the big body. But he's not the kind of big we need. He tends to play outside rather than inside.
thefloydian
I don't know how a big guy who can shoot the three isn't what we need. Yeah, we also need some kind of defensive player, but he would help spread the floor a lot, and Smith could play the three without having to hang out on the perimeter. When you think about it he could be the perfect guy to pair with Acie. he can pull the big man out of the lane to make it easier for Acie to finish inside. Plus when Acie drives and the defense collapses he can give Acie someone to kick it to who can actually make a shot. Zaza can't make a 15 footer to save his life. Anderson/Acie running the pick and roll/pop could be a very effective play.
thefloydian
I wonder how his 3 point shot will translate to the longer range of the NBA 3 point line.
exodus
Quote: I wonder how his 3 point shot will translate to the longer range of the NBA 3 point line. He shoots 61% from the international 3 and 91% from the ft line. If he can shoot like that i would think moving a step back wouldn't be a problem. I would not be crazy about starting Andersen though. I think if we were going to get a starting center other than Horford i would prefer it to be a defensive specialist who can guard big post players. i don't think the starters will have that much problem scoring but we need more scoring off the bench. thefloydian
Yeah, it seems like it shouldn't. I was just wondering if there was any precedent for euro guys' 3 point shots falling off when they came to the NBA. I agree that he should come off the bench too, I just meant I think he would help the smith-at-the-3 problem because he could play on the perimeter. Yeah I know, i didn't mean to come off like starting him was such a bad idea. What i meant was that we need a shooter. The fact that he is a big isn't a problem to me. I was basically agreeing with this.. Quote: I don't know how a big guy who can shoot the three isn't what we need. Smith could play some 3 while Andersen is in the game. txsting
I'm definitely on board with this - but you do have to realize this probably means that one of our free agents will be traded. We are already going to be really close to the luxury tax if we resign Chillz and Smoove. If you add Andersen at even $3M, but that would cost the owners $6M due to the dollar-for-dollar tax, I doubt this is going to happen. Most likely, Childress is getting dealt, if Andersen is coming. And not for even money of course - it would probably have to be to a team under the cap (Seattle, Phila, Memphis, maybe one or two others). I would take Petro (at $1M) and Seattle's high second rounder and be well pleased, if that's what it takes to get DA over here. Another possibility would be to move Zaza and try to get a good second round pick, saving about $4M.

We don't want Smith feeling like he needs to shoot jumpshots, but he can be an awesome "small" forward when paired with a 4 or 5 who can shoot and stretch the defense.
