Boston’s Paul Pierce and Washington’s DeShawn Stevenson Fined

NEW YORK, April 28, 2008 – Boston Celtics forward Paul Pierce and Washington Wizards guard DeShawn Stevenson have each been fined $25,000 for making menacing gestures during games played this weekend, it was announced today by Stu Jackson, NBA Executive Vice President Basketball Operations.

The incident involving Pierce occurred in the fourth period of the Celtics’ 102-93 Game 3 loss to the Atlanta Hawks on April 26. The incident involving Stevenson occurred in the first period of the Wizards’ 100-97 Game 4 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers on April 27.

That should put to rest anyone thinking that it was a 3 or anything other than a gang sign. Oh wait, these are Celtics fans so nevermind. Here come the conspiracy theories...

Rivers and Ainge are both saying the fine will be appealed. They're claiming that it was NOT a gang sign, but rather a gesture that Pierce supposedly makes before every game- a gesture they claim symbolizes "blood, sweat, and tears".

Nah, it's true. They said it tonight on the Fox Sports New England pre-game show.

It doesn't matter if it is appealed or not. They have sent a message to the 'gangstas'. This ain't the street, its a billion dollar business and Stern will not let them forget it. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy.
