Kenyon Martin/RJ Anyone???

I was just looking over the board mentions and I noticed that Martin has asked to be traded.

Here's my thought.

SAR/CC to NJ for Martin/Kittles/RJ.

It gives us:

Theo/Martin/Rj/Kittles/JT.

Is this a perfect trade... NO.

Is this a good trade... Kinda.

I think SAR would work better with Kidd and Morning. It makes NJ into a REAL halfcourt team. Kidd and SAR played together before at Cal so maybe the chemistry is still there.

For us, it gives us defense. Both RJ and Martin are good defenders (for the most part). This team also does alot of running.

The problem...

Rebounds?

Can JT make this team score.

Kittles is a bad contract out of NJ's hand, but he's a good shooter to pair with JT.

Back to NJ,

They go with:

Mourning/SAR/Rodgers/Plannic/Kidd.

Very Strong halfcourt team.

thats definitely a possibility.

I would pull the trigger! but Martin wants 85-90 Million contract. Is he worth it? NJ offered 65-70 over 6 years which sounds reasonable.. but 85-90?

i know J Oneal got lot more than that and centers/PFs are suppose to get more $$$ (since good ones are rare)...

but if we cant give that to Martin, what then?

NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE

Martin is not a max player. He's a below average

rebounder and he and JT wouldn't be good combo.

RJ also isn't that great... Infact, other than his

athletic ability he brings very little. The more i've

watched him I have noticed he has no go to moves

or jumpshot.

NAH I'll pass.

I agree that Martin is not a max player. But this must be proved. If he plays for us for one year.... Then when his contract is up, will he still think that he is worth 80-90 million. I doubt it. Kidd makes players look good.

The interesting thing is that if he can prove he is, we can pay him.

If he doesn't we low ball him.

If he says Walk, let him Walk.

We still have a good team without him.

Blazers mull Wallace deal

08/09/03

JASON QUICK

The Trail Blazers appear to be shopping around Rasheed Wallace, and they have considered a deal that would send the volatile forward and Ruben Patterson to the New Jersey Nets for Dikembe Mutombo and Kenyon Martin.

"There have been some discussions, but there is not a trade on the table at this moment," coach Maurice Cheeks said Friday.

The Blazers apparently are hesitant to make the trade because general manager John Nash does not want to inherit Mutombo's salary, which is $17.9 million this season and $19.7 million next season. It appears that the teams are talking about different scenarios, one of which might include Arvydas Sabonis instead of Patterson.

Nash, who was the Nets' general manager from 1996-2001, was noncommittal Friday when asked about the trade.

"I'm not at liberty to discuss that," Nash said. "As a general policy, I won't confirm or deny that we are involved in a trade."

Nets president Rod Thorn was traveling to West Virginia for his son's wedding and could not be reached for comment.

Although Cheeks said he wants to keep Wallace, who has led the Blazers in scoring the past four seasons, he said the team has continually looked to trade him this summer.

"There have been a lot of things going on about Rasheed," Cheeks said. "And not just about Rasheed, a lot of other players, too. And there have been some deals on the table."

Wallace is in the final year of his contract, which will pay him $17 million. Although he has been the Blazers' best player the past four years, he also has come to symbolize the attitude and temperament of the troubled team, an image the new management is attempting to change.

Wallace led the NBA in technical fouls from 1999-2002, setting a record with 41 in -2000-01, and he has been suspended for 11 games during the past three seasons for incidents ranging from attacking a referee to throwing a towel at a referee to throwing a towel at a teammate. He was cited for marijuana possession last season.

"I know Rasheed has not been the best soldier," Cheeks said. "But I think he is trying to change. Right now, he is working out in Las Vegas, and for Rasheed to be doing that at this time of the year is a very positive sign."

Cheeks remained neutral, however, when asked whether he would support a trade that included Wallace.

"Rasheed is an important part of our team, and I'd like to keep Rasheed. But I also think we have to stay open about any deals that come about," Cheeks said. "Management has a difficult job to do. People want change, for us to go a different route."

As general manager of the Nets, Nash picked Martin with the No. 1 selection in the 2000 draft. The 6-foot-9 power forward averaged 16.7 points and 8.3 rebounds last season, but like Wallace he has received suspensions for his conduct, primarily flagrant fouls.

Mutombo is a 12-year NBA veteran who was injured much of last season, limiting him to 24 games, in which he averaged 5.8 points and 6.4 rebounds in 21.4 minutes. A 7-2, 265-pound center, Mutombo is considered a defensive specialist, and he is the only player in NBA history to win the league's Defensive Player of the Year award four times (2001, 1998, 1997, 1995). He also received the J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award in 2001.

Cheeks would not say whether he would endorse a Wallace and Patterson for Mutombo and Martin trade.

"My job is to work with what I have," he said. "But I think we are keeping our eyes and ears open."

Notes:

Sabonis is expected in Portland next week to receive a physical examination from the Blazers. The team and Sabonis have until Friday to determine whether his $7 million contract will be guaranteed.

Yeah, I saw that.

I also saw: Wallace/Arvydas for Deke/Martin. Portland has always wanted Deke but..... I don't know if this is a good deal for them. I know that if we offered:

Hendu/SAR/Nazr, they would not hesitate to send us Wallace/Anderson.

Think about that for a minute:

Theo/Wallace/CC/Anderson/JT.

The team would need a Sf. Anderson is a question mark health wise. That team would be horrid in the low post. BUT... It would be a good defensive/Offensive team compared to what we have now.

Yeah they talked about the sabonis offer in the article...That would be a great move if the Nets then cut him and the blazers can resign him at the MCE...

However I think that it would be definitely be a step backward in talent, a step backward on contracts (ie money), but a huge huge leap forward on chemistry and shedding bad seeds (including it is patterson that is shipped out). We really dont' lose anything on defense or rebounding either.

Just to get rid of Rasheed and the nanny-stopper in one day would be a relief for this city.

I'm probably biased because I've always been a big fan of Kmart anyway. Is he worth the big big bucks? Probably not, but if Bibby and Sczerbiak are signing big deals he is surely better than those guys. Plus he brings a toughness that this team needs.

though. That trade would be such a no brainer that its not even worth discussing.

Theo

K-Mart

RJ

Kittles

JT

That team has pretty much everything it needs to be competitive except size. We'd go from being a poor interior defensive team to having to of the league's better defenders up front. We'd be tremendously athletic. Even if we didn't want to pay K-Mart the max (by the way, the max for him is still SIGNIFICANTLY less than what we will likely have to pay Reef in 05/06), we could sign and trade him and get something of value in return. In addition, we go from having holes at SG and Sf to having a solid vet at SG and an up and coming POSSIBLE star at SF. No trade is perfect but this is one I'd pull the trigger on.

I'd hate to see Reef go but I'd do this deal. No way NJ trades K-Mart AND Jefferson though.

I keep hearing that NJ will try to dump Deke's contract with this trade.

Therefore, I'm kinda leary about hearing that Portland has interest. Reason being. Zach Randolph has already established himself as The future of PF at Portland.

Also, I think Portland has also decided to not go over the Cap in the future if Neccessary.

So i don't personally think a Portland deal is on the way. With Randolph still there it makes NO SENSE...

BUT....

I do believe that NJ wants to use Kmart to get out of Deke's contract.

I also believed that the deal I first proposed was too good to be true. It's too much for us to take, even with Kittle's bad contract.

What I have looked at is this:

Deke/Martin/RJ to Atlanta.

SAR/Hendu/CC to NJ.

Deke's huge contract comes off the same time that the other two would have come off. BUT.....

Theo/Martin/RJ/Diaw/JT.

I think that's a decent Unit.

Exchange Diaw with DJ and you have a reunion of the Bearcats.

Deke off the bench isn't bad either. It can be a return of the finger... BUT, we'd would probably be one of the better defensive teams in the league.

Offensively, JT would have to prove his worth.
