  1. I definitely prefer the Patriot's management and coaching combination to our own. As an A's, Patriots, and Hawks fan the latter of the three is the hardest team to feel good about. I've spent the past two decades plus making excuses for a team that does not seem to know what they are doing. I'm all for letting the market set itself but at this point in the game we should just set the market with both the Josh's. They work their asses off and helped get us into the playoffs.
  2. "If this organization was like the Steelers or Patriots fans would not get riled up because they know what to expect. The fans of those teams pretty much know they are tight with the wallet. The Hawks fans can only think of incompetence when the ASG is brought up. I wish this team had the structure the Lakers currently have. The comparison to the Lakers is not a good one to the Hawks. " The Patriots are not tight with the wallet. They spend up to the cap every single year just like the majority of teams do. What they don't do is overpay for players who are declining. They also believe in fielding a complete team top to bottom which means the top guys don't make as much as they could on other teams so the middle to bottom guys can make more than they would on other teams.
  3. Didn't Chillz get special shoes made for him by Nike that helped him with his foot issues. Also, I remember BK sending him and Marvin for core strengthening for related issues. I don't think he is damaged goods and hopes he returns despite his desire to be a starter.
  4. Quote: Quote: Dude this is the guy who told us that Brandan Wright was the most NBA-ready prospect last year. If he says so it must be true. I never EVER said that, the f#@k you putting bulls#*t words in my mouth. F#$king prick EDIT: Sorry for cursing you out, but don't ever put words into my mouth, especially when there dead wrong. Please elaborate on what you did say about B Wright because I too recall you going on and on about he is the best player to draft.
  5. You never want change for the sake of change but in reality I feel Woodson has done a pretty poor job of player management. I don't want to rehash the season but after watching the Boston playoff series he really did utilize Bibby way too much. I mean Law should have gotten a ton more minutes just for his defense alone. Bibby was not shooting well and we already had Woodson's famous "Give the ball to Joe and stand around" offense implemented 75% of the time. Now I will say the young guys were not mentally sharp for Game 7 and won't put that on Woodson entireley but really he needs to have these guys ready to play. Limping into the playoffs and not winning clinching games says a lot to me. I know Marvin is a sore subject and I screamed at him way more than not during the playoffs but I can't help but feel the physical tools are there and he just needs a new coach to push him to the next level.
  6. Why have we not made any adjustments? We still walk the ball up. Joe gets the ball and gets doubled and our bigs shoot long jumpers. Only Josh Smith is playing heads up. We should be getting into our sets faster. Joe take the double to either side and a guy flashes center for a quick pass for a 4 on 3 advantage. If the Celtics collapse the bigs need to dribble in instead of the long jumpers that are going unguarded. I HOPE WOODSON IS FIRED! This is not rocket science and is a replay of Game 5.
  7. Wow. Rarely get to catch a Hawks game but man ZAZA sucks!. Are Shel Will and Solomon really worse than Zaza? ZAZA_____ZAZA
  8. I like his game and think he works hard. He also fits with what Golden State likes to do. But why would they want to trade their top center for Josh Smith? Because they can't handle Utah and need someone who can muscle up with Boozer and Milsap. Now I'm not saying Smith is a rebounding monster but he can use his strength to bother Utah more so than Biedrens. Perhaps the soft euro comment was a bit harsh but at the end of the day I'd take Smith over Biedrens every time.
  9. I don't think we should trade our young emerging star and the face of the franchise for another soft euro center. Biedrins also sucks at freethrows and his rebounding numbers are inflated with Golden State and the pace they play at. I much rather keep developing this year and pay Smoove his money and let Acie and Horford develop. STAY THE COURSE!
  10. Man what a horrible time for this type of article. We are just about to release the hounds on a new NBA season and our captain is quoted as asking for help to succeed. On one hand I can totally understand. JJ was promised a second veteran option and that guy never showed up. Given Billy's desire to not take on bad contracts I can easily see why we didn't make a move. Maybe Billy felt speedy was that guy. I think all JJ is saying is he wants a Vince Carter, not a guy with the potential to be Vince Carter in three years. I still think Billy did the right thing and letting out young talent mature this year then resigning them is the FUTURE. I honestly think we are solid and wouldn't trade anyone save for SW, Speedy, and Lorenzen. Keep your head up JJ we about to take off on the league this year.
  11. Marvin Williams did not do this, Marvin Williams did not do that, Marvin Williams studies too much, Marvin Williams doesn't focus on basketball...blah blah blah. Really I'm tired of all the Marvin William posts. Just let dude play and lets see where his talent takes him. Everyone wants all our picks to be superstars but in reality there aren't enough balls to go around if our starting five are all superstars. I'd love to have three scoring options and tough defense all around. If Marvin scores at 17 ppg or more we will make the playoffs center or not.

    Darko to the Grizz

Quote: Quote: Horford simply is not an NBA center. I love ya, bro, but geez... I think you make the mistake of thinking if you say it over and over again that it will actually turn the frog into a prince... Please, there is no one that misunderstands your opinion at this point... And, no other new way for you to cast some new light or thought on your point... Just be satisfied that you've done your best to persuade, and at this stage, there's nothing more you can do, other than drive people away from your side of the argument, and for that matter, any future sides of any argument. I say that as a confessed offender myself in that realm. Okay??? ( ) Very well put Sturt. Maybe Diesel will take some of that advice and give Marvin a chance.
  13. I like both picks since we couldn't pull off a Dwight Howard trade.
  14. Quote: Quote: Nene, Daly, Milicic (resigned and traded), Camby, Biedrins, Bynum, even one of Seattle's 3 center prospects. W [/indent] Of that list I like Camby and Biedrins but don't think either can stop Duncan. Daly and the rest are UNPROVEN! I see no reason why a platoon of Horford and Shelden can not out muscle those guys in the post. They may give up a few inches but make up for it in strength. Utah's frontline should show you how size not necessarily height can be effective.
  15. Quote: Please give Marvin a break. Its not like the kid is averaging 4pts a game. Marvin is averaging 13pts, 5rbs a game. He will be ok. Here is a thought. Lets see how Marvin plays next to a legitimate pure pg. That is the Hawks problem right now no one healthy enough to actually penetrate kick out or simply run an offense. Marvin is on schedule and if he stays healthy will average 17pts and 7rbs next season. Josh Smith takes too many bad shots, hopefully he gets a better shot selection or he will turn into God Forbid Antoine Walker. I'm in full agreement. I feel that a PG who can setup the offense and start the breaks will allow our players to find the correct spots on the floor to initiate offense from. A good PG will alleviate JJ's need to dominate the ball and Smith and Marvin can pick their spots. From what I've seen from the Hawks the guys are not selfish it's just that they don't have any idea where each other are on the floor. Part of that is poor coaching but I really think it's because our PGs, while serviceable, SUCK!. We really are a team in need of a good PG. On a side note, while I don't see the light on all the time with Marvin, i.e. being aggressive, I see a fabulous shooting stroke. I just think he needs some plays run from him and to get more lower body strength so he can defend players better.
  16. Quote: Believe me I don't want ZaZa starting next year either. We all know this draft couldn't address our center position needs so too many are trying to make it do so like squeezing water from a rock. We need a trade for a center. I've always said we should consider JC, MW, and/or SW in a trade for a center (prospect) should we draft Yi. Fact is ZaZa might be starting with Horford next to him. Even if we draft Horford we need to make a trade with all these forwards, all of whom we cannot hope to resign. If we need to make a trade anyhow and a center can only be had through a trade, why not a trade for a center? W I keep hearing we need to trade for a center but I just don't see that many great centers in the NBA. Duncan is probably the only real center that I feel is a difference maker and he can actually be considered a power forward. Big Z is decent but doesn't carry the team. Ben Wallace is good but has no offense and has a PF body. Kaman is decent but regressed this year. Shaq is declining and is once a decade player. Bogut doesn't impress me. Bynum is unproven and young. Biedrens is improving but even he isn't a prototypical center. I guess I just don't see where these magical centers are. If you have a great one(Duncan and young Shaq) then I can buy into your thought process but you just don't see those guys available. Horford isn't sexy to me, nor is Shelden but I have no problem rotating those guys with Josh Smith in the PF and C spots.
  17. Bravo!!! I lurk everyday even though I'm a member and this is spot on. LOL
  18. My wishes: Trade both picks for: 1) Dwight Howard 2) Amare If we can't do that then: #3 Al Horford #4 Acie Law Choro

    Foye ..

Quote: In our offense, Foye would be no better than Salim. He's really would be AJ part 2. At his best, he's a 4.5 apg player in 30 mpg... I don't see future in that. We need a guy like Andre Miller who can run an offense... We have an offense?

Welcome AussieDan!. You mention you've been a Hawks fan for a few years now, how far back are talking?
  21. According to the Orlando Sentinel Dwight Howard is looking to sign his extension: Dwight Howard's camp is working on a restructuring of his adidas contract. Also, Howard would like to get the formality of his $87-million contract extension -- which doesn't kick in until after next season -- out of the way, ASAP. I was hoping the rumors of him wanting to come back to Atlanta were true.
  22. Since you decided to quote me. All I'm saying is I'd rather be in the playoffs then not. At least getting there gives you a fighting chance at winning and moving on. To constantly be in the lottery and bank on a top 3 pick that may never come doesn't work for me. I want to see the team grow together and get the kind of chemistry necessary to be competitive. I'd rather our team fight these tough games aiming at the playoffs then get accustomed to throwing games at the chance Oden or some other unproven will come and save them. You don't need a so-called franchise center to win you need chemistry and talent. We have half that equation already.
  23. Very few people would deny that Belkin has more business savvy (which is the phrase you were looking for, as opposed to the vague "smarter") than the Spirit. However, it's that same business savvy that makes him a poor owner IMO. Most fans would agree that good owners do two things well: 1. Let the basketball people make the basketball decisions. If those decisions are mistakes, then they hold those people accountable. 2. They give their teams the necessary financial investment to be successful. Belkin meets neither of those criteria as shown by his actions over the past year. This "he hasn't been given his side of the story" argument is manure. He spoke more than enough through his actions. Quote: Since Belkin is smarter than the Spirit, it would be better to have him as the Owner. See above. Making money from a team is NOT the same thing as "a good owner." Quote: It is just Belkin is better than the Spirit In what way? What (non-legal) mistakes have they made when not under the legal and financial restrictions caused by Belkin's aggressive move for power? AMEN. Belkins sucks. He wants to own the team as a status symbol to keep his ego riding high. The man doesn't care about winning nor does he truly love the Hawks. They are just his latest chance to own and NBA franchise. In my view he went over BK's head who is hired to make basketball decisions. He then 'outmaneuvered' the Spirit, but in reality used a loophole to cheat them. Then he used this maneuver to tie the Spirit's hand destorying our free agent dealings and forcing us to stay status quo. I personally think the Spirit want to fire Woody but can't because of the cost so they have to be politically correct. I also think the ownership mess caused by Belkin was the main reason Cassell turned us down. I can't fault BK for not landing Cassell who would have taken us to the playoffs. And that capspace we are holding is necessary to resign Chill and JS in the future. That is why we didn't take salary back for Harrington. I applaud that move becuase it allows you to keep guys that can play. Ask Golden State if they wish they had the capspace to resign Arenas a few years back. It is looking like Chill is gonna be a 6 million per guy and Smith and 8 million per. Speedy's contract was frontloaded and Marvin will be coming up by then. I think we trade Zaza at some point, platoon Jones and Shelden at center and draft a PG this year with the Pacers pick. I think it will be Ronald Steele. Marvin and JS together is just nasty.
  24. Quote: I'm gonna save this post and when we get the number one pick I'm gonna pull it back out. We won't be in the lottery if the following stay healthy from here on out. JJ, Smoove, Marvin, Chill, Shelden, and Solomon.
  25. Quote: Quote: The good is Smoove revived a lifeless Hawks team. The bad is he might have saved Woodson and BK job. For now though I will enjoy the win and the effort the team showed tonight. Woodson though almost cost this team another win down the stretch. Does he ever call a good play out of a timeout? Winning is a good deodorant. As bad as the hawks have played lately, that win tonight makes me a little more optimistic. It may be false hope but I guess that's what being a fan is all about. Woody is still a bad coach and BK is still a bad GM, but the bottom line is if we somehow make the playoffs this year their jobs are safe. But I still don't want another 20-30 win season. I just don't see the point of it. If we're going to win, by all means continue winning. But if we're going to lose, then we might as well lose big and get something positive out of it. Another ho-hum season would almost be like being in limbo or something. Agreed on Woodson but how is Knight a bad GM. Woody doesn't seem to play the right players, substitute correctly, or draw up plays. I think his behavior continues even with a healthy squad. BK on the other hand assembled a team that should be running and I feel would be in the playoff hunt despite Woody and the injuries. If the Hawks healed and had a new coach we'd be the 6th seed this year and top 4 the next. Belkin and a top 3 pick are not going to help us in the long run. We need experience, not another high pick to groom.
