I am sad to see Tex go, but we get Kotchman who is a cheap 1B who has comparable numbers at his age with Big Papi David Ortiz. What else were we going to get for a 2 month rental who doesn't deliver clutch hits?

Kotchman has far fewer strikeouts in about the same amount of at bats. Other than that, pretty similar players all around. Not a bad move at all.

The pitching prospect that was included in this trade was Steven Marek. They say he's a hard throwing reliever, but this is the first year he's spent in the bullpen in the minors. He's struck out 57 batters in 46.2 innings at Double-A this year.

Agreed. Kotchman's gonna be a good building block for the future, and the Braves get a future bullpen arm out of this (Lord knows they need a replacement for Royce Ring's sorry a**.). Good deal for both teams. The Braves get to build for the future, and the Angels are ready to make their WS run.

I like this trade. Kotchman is still only 25. This is far better than I could have hope for. After hearing how there wasn't much of a market for Tex. Braves came out of this very well. Wren has made some good trades so far for the Braves. JS trades were very questionable the last year or so.

They were trying to get Conor Jackson from the D-Backs, but that's obviously asking too much. The Red Sox were reportedly offering Youkilis as well. Considering the market, this is the best trade.

No, the Red Sox weren't offering Youkilis. We were offering Teixeira for Youkilis and Hansen/minor league pitcher. Obviously it was declined because Youkilis for Teixeira itself was an 'overkill' trade.

Wren said they made an offer to re-sign Tex that would have made him one of the highest paid players in the league. He turn them down on that offer. Rangers offer 8 years at $140 Million. Gotta believe the Braves offer was around that if not higher.

Exactly. This trade shows that the Braves' F/O understands the business of sports, while the ASG gets in the way of their F/O.

Nonetheless, it will take the Braves another 4 or 5 years to be rebuilt into a high caliber team.
