Premium Member Peoriabird Posted November 23, 2008 Premium Member Report Share Posted November 23, 2008 In the 1st half when we continue the stagnant Isolation/post up half court sets, we scored only 12 points in the quarter. When Acie Law was allow to run the team in the second half especially with JJ on the bench, the offense look a lot better because we dribble penetrated and move the ball. Hopefully in future games, Law will be allowed to run the offense as oppose to the 2 guard ( JJ or Flip) to get other players easy shots. This Iso offense has to stop!!!!!! DrReality
Agreed. Teams know what to expect and that's what happened in the first quarter. They shut us down. When we play like that we are very one dimensional. Acie brought another dimension for us. Loved it.

That is because when the starters are in we don't have a pg. We have two shooting guards in the backcourt. If anything JJ is more of a pg than Bibby. Bibby never pushes the ball up the court. Usually he skips up the court like a girl playing hopscotch. A lot of the time JJ has to bring it up because Bibby can't when he is being pressured. Bibby can't beat guys off the dribble which makes it much easier on the defense. Bibby is a one trick pony and while his shot can be good at times it doesn't much matter if the opposing pgs light him up and he doesn't set anyone else up on offense. I always laugh while watching him hop skip up the court. Reminds me of how AJ used to prance up the court like an old man. Bibby always looks like he's limping up the court. Even if he can't dribble penetrate, at least the team could move the ball around a little bit! Throw it around the horn or something. Even if Joe dribble penetrates and kicks out i don't care. Just don't throw it into the post or go one on one and expect to score efficiently.

I wouldn't be surprised if he had the least amount of layups of any starting PG in the league that plays good minutes.
bronnt
I honestly don't know why nearly all of Acie's minutes come with Flip on the floor. Up until tonight, 88% of Acie's minutes have come with Flip on the floor. And Flip has a tendency to dominate the ball, bring it up, and then attempt to put on a dribble exhibition. Acie really needs to just be set loose, the leash removed, and hand him the offense. Let him see what he can do as an actual point guard, playing on the ball instead of off. His usage largely consists of him tossing the ball to Flip/JJ, then standing around on the perimeter waiting to get the ball back. It's like trying Acie is being forced to play the position exactly the way Bibby does, even though they have vastly different skillsets.

uga2006
Bibby is one of the worst defending pg's in the league. He gets light up by bums every night and it's been that way since he's been here. It'd be one thing if it was every other night or so but it's every night. When he's hot he bails out the offense sometimes but even then he's scoring as many as he's giving up. If Acie can consistentaly somewhat become the player that he showed he can be then this team would be so much more better with Bibby getting 20-25 min. tonegully
You're so right. Mike Skippy! Ha! so true. so true. we also need how to learn at least let the shot clock run down to under 20 seconds before we shoot the ball. We always come down and do the same ISO, the same Post to Horf. never moving the ball and making the extra pass.

This post shows the difference between an offensive and defensive minded basketball mindset. i would be of the defensive mindsent. Our offense is struggling right now because our defense is struggling. Less steals, blocked shots, 24 second pushes by us, more layups, short ranged jumpers by them lead to less transition basketball by us and thereby a stagnant offense. Nothing makes an offense look better than a long rebound and an outlet pass with 3 horses running the floor. This gets the other team thinking about other things than straight up defending their man in the half court. We're in isolation because we aren't getting near the transition baskets as we were when we were healthy and playing better D.
exodus
you people obviously dont like winning basketball, we are a winning team with mike bibby why is that so god damn hard to understand. When you give up over 60 pts to Devin Harris, give up 24 to a rookie, never push the ball up the floor or break down the d off the dribble it raises questions about your pg abilities. Right now having Bibby at the point isn't much different than having Eddie House at the point. They are both spot up shooters and nothing else. AtLaS
Right now having Bibby at the point isn't much different than having Eddie House at the point. They are both spot up shooters and nothing else. That's a little far fetched. Bibby certainly isn't a traditional PG but he's way better than Eddie House. If we started running the pick and roll with Bibby he'd start making a lot more plays for others. Regardless, he's averaging 15 and 5 on pretty good percentages, and really extends the defense off JJ, and we are a winning team, I'll take it since there are obviously no better options out there. And, he is a terrible defender but he doesn't get lit up on a nightly basis like many in this thread are saying. Harris went off, but he's also averaging over 23 a game this season. Rose is also averaging about 20, they are tough covers for everyone.
