The Hawks opened up a can on the Wizards Monday night at Philips Arena, including this nasty dunk from Josh Smith.

HAWKSVILLE – Mike Woodson is retiring his favorite word, for one night at least.

Huge is history. He’s caught the bug from Jamal Crawford, whose passing exploits in the Hawks’ blowout win over Washington Monday night at Philips Arena prompted Woodson to utter this bit of prose:

“It can become contagious,” he said of Crawford’s nine assists off the bench, a total that would have been well into the double digits if not for the greasy fingers and a couple of risky attempts. “We have guys that can, our perimeter guys can all pass the ball. It’s just a matter of guys sacrificing the ball for the sake of the team. There will be times when Jamal will have big scoring nights, and [Jeff] Teague’s going to have big scoring nights. Arenas, Jameison, and Miller did not play yet they put up 95 on us? I am thrilled that Teague, 16 pts, 5 assist, and Crawford, 9 assist, had great games but not so thrilled with 95 points when three of their primary scorers did not even see the floor.

Regular season will probably be 110 to 105 shootouts, last man shooting wins the game.

I found this quote by Crawford to be pretty interesting...

“You can’t go out there just shooting like crazy,” Crawford said. “Especially for me, I’m in a totally different role. I have to get used to coming off the bench and picking my spots. Coach wants me to come out aggressive. He’s like, ‘just go, go.’ But I’m taking a more measured approach. I’m feeling my way through it and seeing exactly where I can be effective for this team.”

Not sure what to read into it this early in the season, but its interesting nonetheless. Lets just say my pops, who hates Woody, would laugh at this comment.

Crawford missed all 5 of his jumpshots, but he made up for it big time with 9 assists. This is what I was talking about last week, in which I said that I hope he sees what Gilbert Arenas was doing this preseason. Arenas was trying to be more of a playmaker than a scorer so far this year ( that'll probably change because of the Jamison injury ).

If Crawford's shot isn't going, this is exactly how I wat him to play. If he plays smart, and doesn't take all of those bad shots when ice cold, that he's known for, then I won't have many complaints about JC this season.

Friday night's game vs Orlando will be interesting. With it being an ESPN2 national TV game, both teams may take the game a little more serious.

Typical Woodson offensive philosophy / or lack of. I am so glad we have smart vets like Bibby and Crawford who can think for themsleves and get other people involved.

He hasnt been on a team in quite a while where his top priority wasnt looking to score. Even on GS with all those scorers nelson was still pushing him to shoot more . I even read something where Crawford and Corey Maggette got into argument while Crawford was playing pg because someone on the Warriors was having a great start to the game (Jackson I think) and they were getting him the ball and in control of the game and then Maggette comes in and immediately starts shooting with no regard for who was hot when he came in the game.

From talking with a couple of knicks fans they say Crawford is notorious for not having his shooting stroke in the preseason but then comes out on fire when the season starts .

I think Crawford really is gonna help Teague because when he's on the floor with Crawford he doesnt have to run the club as much which will take a lot of pressure off of him . This will allow Teague to get more minutes than he would normally get if Woody was dependent upon him solely running the club.
