Hello, all-

Hope you’re staying warm. I just took a 20-minute walk from lunch with Hawks PR man Arthur Triche and sideline reporter James Verrett back to my hotel. This is my final road trip with the team, so Arthur and James were good enough to send me off with a lunch. James had a pretty big burger, I had a pizza and Arthur, who is on the same veggies and fruit diet that Mike Woodson is on, had a salad. (If you hadn’t heard, new staffer Michael Cunningham will be taking over at the end of the week.)

How I'm guessing Arthur's lunch looked to him

Anyway, got a big of news and a thought about the Hawks’ slump or whatever term you want to give it, and some links.

News: The Hawks are looking at three players to sign to a 10-day contract – Anthony Tolliver, Pops Mensah-Bonsu and Mario West.

Tolliver is a 6-9 center/forward who has spent a lot of time in the D-League and has gotten a little bit of NBA time with San Antonio and Portland. The Hawks may have to move fast on …

Either West or Pops would be nice. I don't know who Tolliver is. Was he in camp before the season ?

It would be great to have West play some defense in certain situations. His hustle is contagious. I would have loved to have seen him come in and play early in the Magic game. His energy could have sparked the team.

Look at what West has been up to in the D-League (his last 3 games were really good !)

Pops can protect the rim..............that is needed desperately out of our 2nd unit. Look at what he did in 8 games last year in hte D-League (26ppg / 60% FG /13 rpg / 2.5 bpg)

On Teague..........he played some good defense on Rondo in some meaningful minutes last Fri night. I hope he gets the same chance tonight.

And IMO if Tolliver was all that his coach thinks, he would be in Portland right now residing on the bench.

I would prefer Tolliver's ability to stretch the D a bit, but Pops has talent, too.

I feel West will still be there in two weeks, so the Hawks should try out one of the other two first...

I agree. West should still be there if the other two don't pan out.

Tolliver didn't look good in Portland, but the Blazers' needs also changed will he was signed - Joel P. was injured during that stretch.

I do wonder how much better he is than Hunter, though. West has looked good in the NBDL, FWIW.

The Hawks could definitely use a big to stretch the floor. Its just a shame to me that Marvin hasn't been able to step into that role- if he were just willing to crash the boards I htink he would be a great stretch PF. He would create so many mismatches dragging slow players to the outside.
