Premium Member Diesel Posted January 14, 2010 Premium Member Report Share Posted January 14, 2010 (edited) Apparently the Hawks got the message. Later that night, in the locker room after the win, this was the conversation: “Guys, great win,” Woodson rasped. “Remember what I said? You can win playing defense! We struggled with the offense but your defense was terrific.” “The s--- works!” blurted out [rookie Jeff] Teague, cracking up the entire room. “That’s right, it does, it works,” Woodson said, smiling. “Alright guys, let’s get home. You’ve got tomorrow off, and then we’ll come back in on Monday and get back to work. No more let ups, guys!” “No excuses!” yelled [Al] Horford. “No sir, no excuses, guys,” Woodson said. “Oh, and guys, today is Josh Smith’s birthday. Jeff Teague, get up here and sing Happy Birthday, rook.” Sometimes, the truth is better than anything you can come up with!!! This is hilarious. Jeff Teague is my new favorite Rookie olf all time!!! Blunt91
TheHawkSquawk: "The S---T WORKS" Mike Woodson on what works http://bit.ly/5tOsdC View the full article It is so dissapointing to hear Woodsen saying that he doesn't care what we do on offense. Seems like he thinks we have enough talented veteran scorers who can put points on the board without having to have an elaborate offensive scheme. He said some of the same stuff back when he came here in 2004. "I'm not worried about any offensive plays right now, I am just trying to get them to play defense." The front office allows him to do this. IF I'm GM, I'm bringing in an offensive coordinator. IF he doesn't give a s---0 what we do on offense, then he shouldn't give a s---- when we bring in a specialist. I believe this team can simply outscore other teams if we were to do more than just iso, iso, iso.
tonegully
The s*** works. Play some defense Hawks and you can win. We do need an offensive minded assistant coach though. I wonder does Bibby give him advice on running the offense.

The top teams in the league win with defense. When you don't play defense, you can still play great offense and lose. Ask Toronto. Both Boston and LA Lakers make a commitment to defense. So does San Antonio. Defense also creates offense. In our blowout wins, that's why we blew teams out. People hate NBA isolation offense. But when you have talented isolation offensive players that are also willing to pass, it gives you an advantage over other teams. When defense really gets tough in the playoffs, it's the great isolation offensive players who usually excel in the playoffs. Phoenix will never win a championship, and may not ever go to the NBA Finals, because they're not committed to defense. As Woody says . . . "The ish works!!" I wonder does Bibby give him advice on running the offense. You read what Woody said in the article? He's a coach with NO EGO. He will listen to the suggestions of the players if they see something that he's not seeing. So I'm betting that Bibby does give him advice sometimes.
