Matt Barnes probably will not announce his plans today

Matt Barnes’ agent told the Orlando Sentinel this afternoon that the free-agent forward probably will not announce today where he’ll play in 2010-11, as Barnes had originally planned.

Aaron Goodwin, who represents Barnes, said that additional teams became involved in the process once it became clear that Barnes was not returning to the Magic.

Barnes posted the following message on Twitter a few moments ago to explain the delay: “Couple new teams just jumped n2 the game, so I’m sorry 2 say ima have 2 get back 2 you. Ill let yall know something with in the nxt few days”

Barnes, Goodwin and Magic General Manager Otis Smith all have said that Smith did not offer Barnes a contract.

Barnes started 58 regular-season games last season for Orlando and averaged 8.8 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. He and Mickael Pietrus were the team’s best defenders on the wings.

Barnes opted out of the second year of his two-year contract with the Magic in order to seek a more lucrative, long-term deal.

He said all along that his first preference was to return to Orlando, but the Magic went in a different direction. Orlando ultimately signed wing Quentin Richardson to a four-year deal that includes a player option for the 2013-14 season.

Goodwin would not say what teams are pursuing Barnes now.

The Boston Celtics could have an interest because swingman Tony Allen has signed a free-agent deal with the Memphis Grizzlies. The Miami Heat still are seeking complements to LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh. The Los Angeles Lakers could be looking for some help on the wing.

I still don't think that Barnes will sign for the minimum or BAE. He has never gotten a big payday and I have to think he would go to the highest bidder.

Do you think he'd sign 3 years 10 Million?

If we were to use Chillz TPE?

I don't quite get all the hype about Matt Barnes...he is a decent SF who can defend.

He was not brought back by Orlando and was replaced by Q Richardson of all players.

He's better than Marvin (as a defender and offensively) at 1/2 the cost.

He's better than Marvin (as a defender and offensively) at 1/2 the cost.

He has never averaged double figures except for one season in run and gun PHX (10.2 ppg) and last year averaged 8.8 ppg.

Marvin is a far superior offensive player and in the right system would be a consistent 15 point a game player. As for Defense he might be a better defender but Marvin is a really good defender in his own right.

Compared to what players are getting out there, Marvin has a very reasonable contract.

.You can't use the TPE to sign a FA and Orlando is not likely to help the Hawks get Barnes by doing a S&T.

We don't need the TPE. We could just use an equivalent portion of the MLE if we want to give Barnes a 3 year, $10M deal.

Barnes-to-Raptors sign-and-trade "dead"

Former Orlando Magic forward Matt Barnes(notes) told the world yesterday on his Twitter page that he planned to sign with the Toronto Raptors. But Yahoo! Sports' Adreian Wojnarowski reports that a sign-and-trade deal between the two teams is "dead."

The Magic and Raptors don't have enough money available to make such a deal at this point.

Barnes could end up in Toronto, anyway, but not for as much cash as he thought it would be. And Wojnarowski reports that there "appear to be larger offers elsewhere for him." The six-year league veteran averaged 5.5 rebounds and 8.8 points per game last season with Orlando.
