Premium Member sturt Posted June 21, 2011 Premium Member Report Share Posted June 21, 2011 http://nba-point-forward.si.com/2011/06/21/trade-away-smith-dont-do-it-hawks/ .... There’s a reason Atlanta’s best scoring lineups featured Smith, Horford and three perimeter players. That’s not to say Smith can only help teams with the right spacing personnel. He’s much better than that. He reminded us in the playoffs that he can swing to small forward and look dominant in the post, even if that’s not really his ideal position, especially on defense. He is a game-changing defender when he’s working at peak effort, and he’s obviously a beast in transition. He has been a borderline All-Star for two years running. And that’s why, of course, the Hawks should not be looking to deal him, unless perhaps they can find a way to dump Marvin Williams in the same deal. But the Hawks spent themselves into a corner with the Johnson deal, and losing Smith may well end up being the price they pay. If that’s the case, perhaps it would be best to execute something resembling a true salary dump, or to acquire a useful player on a deal that expires after next season. Supporter
We were able to beat teams like Chicago without Josh, losing him can increase Horf's role on this team and maybe Marvin will grow a pair with Josh gone.
AUhawksfan
I don't have a problem losing Smith, it's just that the current trade proposals out there for him are ludicrous. If we get rid of him we'd better get something of value in return.

Marvin is through and without Smoove so is our defense.
Rattler4life000
Marvin is through and without Smoove so is our defense. would be the dumbest move this team could make, going from a contender to a lottery pick. We traded away last years 1st round selection, this years 1st round pick, no we want to move smooth. This team is heading down the toilet!!!
