Braves Get A Cub Pitcher After All

For two prospects as-yet-unknown, the Braves receive LHP Paul Maholm and OF Reed Johnson. Cubs haven't lost in over a month with Maholm starting (5-0 in 8 starts) and Johnson's hitting .300+ for the second-straight year, so maybe this will work out nicely.~lw3

Of course, it was one of our elite prospects in Vizz. This deal could end up looking like the John Smoltz trade, with us in the position of the Tigers.

Vizz certainly has potential, but there are a couple of red flags with him. He's what 20 and already had a TJ. Second, he's a small power pitcher with a funky delivery. Those tend to add up to future arm problems. The Tigers got exactly what they wanted out of Alexander though. He won games for them and got them into the playoffs. Maholm certainly isn't a #1 pitcher (neither was Dempster), but he should help with the last couple of months and next year. Overall, I'm good with the trade. The Braves still have ammo on the farm to make another move or develop it.
