Merged: Hawks are in negotiations with Monta Ellis. Not signed yet

I hope we end up with at least Jennings. Jennings+Bynum would be wonderful and would really excite me for the upcoming season.

What I'm hoping is that Kings clear cap (amnesty Salmons?) to sign Ellis to a 3 year deal tomorrow. Bynum decides to sign with the Hawks. Ferry, "losing" out on Ellis, and the Bucks willing to offer Teague a contract, trades Teague (and throws Zaza in the trade to equal salaries instead of Bucks signing him outright) for Brandon Jennings and a 2nd round pick (doubt we get a 1st and they have a few 2nds).

Since we're in the mood for calling posters out and blowing dust off of old threads... BUMP!!! lol I love Monta and still wish the Hawks would have nabbed him. Knew that all the guy needed was a front court. Dirk and Carlisle has been great for this guy's career so far and I believe Horf and Bud would have had the same effect on him.

I still dont trust giving monta full PG duties and glad we didnt sign him. When he played us both times he made a bunch of poor decisions and turned the ball over like crazy.

He is having a efficient scoring year but no way Im giving him the keys to the offense. Having a vet like calderon next to him control the offense helps cover up his deficiencies.

Yep he's got 14 turnovers in 2 games against the Hawks, which is just insane! He's also got 44 points and 12 assists but that's an awful a:to ratio.

As a German B-Ball fan, hence Mavs fan, I loved the signing of Monta as soon as I heard it. Also the signing of Calderon I love. They really compliment each others offensive strengths and some additional offense was most needed for Dirk.

Never understood the Jalen Rose etc rankings pre-season listing the Mavs so low.

Though that defense....

They'll never win with that backcourt though as they can't defend at all. I mean Monta can get you some steals but he gambles way too much and Calderon is scared of playing defense. They make Dirk look like a rugged defender!

Why I said "Though that defense...."

But for the Mavs its much more about next years FA hunting who now can see there is something to work with at Dallas, unlike with Oj Mayo etc. Dirk already made comments along these lines, not expecting much from this year.

Though I think they look great. Specially because they are always able to step up some notches on offenese when needed. They look real clutch and might even this year suprize in the play-offs.

Surely no title contender, but at least its not a D specialist like Charlotte who cant gun along.

I think they had a hard time attracting any marquee FA's this year with Dirk's age and he's only going to be a year older next year. He's been playing pro basketball for what almost 20 years now?

But he aged well. Hes like fine wine and wants to add another 2 years.

I could see him playing another 2 years but I don't think that's enough to get another star to want to play there. The best thing the Mavs could do would be try and move Dirk to a contender for young players / picks.

But the signing of Ellis is way worth it, also cash wise. If he can maintain this level its a steal. He might well grow out to be a player that along with Dirk, some high expiring contracts(Carter, Marion), Cuban's antics and a suprizing Mavs team is able to attract some star.

Last season the Mavs where just a horrible display before they went after Dwight Howard. This year no Howard, but also no horrible display mavs.
