Hawks recall Jared Cunningham, reassign John Jenkins to Bakersfield

I don't see why we're wasting a roster spot with Cunningham as I really don't believe he's got the potential to be good at anything. Maybe he can be a good defender but he's a liability in a big way on offense. I don't mind Jenkins going down so he can get playing time and chemistry with Dennis. Hopefully he gets his confidence back in his shot as it looks broken.

Some thought we were wasting a roster spot on Mack too, now look at him. Patience. I don't expect much though. Maybe he can give us something defensively.

Cunningham does remind me of Gerald Green - all athlete and not much else.

In the famous words of Lamar Odom 'That's why it's called basketball, not run and jump!'

the difference between all of them is Mack and Jenkins both balled out in the dleague. Cunningham was in the dleague this year and last year with the Mavericks and stunk it up. Gerald Green always had a decent game, atleast when I saw him. Green had a solid jumper and could attack the basket, but he just wasnt that smart. I remember him draining jumper after jumper for Dallas in the summer league years ago. Cunningham only throws down the occasional highlight dunk and doesn't provide much else.

If u can't stand out in the dleague u have no future for an NBA career

Green has had a solid jumper for awhile. He never kept a job for mental reasons. He may not be Ray Allen, but he's no Josh Smith lol he's a career 35% shooter from 3

You are right he is neither Ray or Josh - they have both been and kept jobs in the NBA.

Cunningham has his moments. He looks like Shannon Brown when he first got into the league. Gerald Green made Josh Smith BBIQ look like Chris Paul.

truth

but that has nothing to do with anything. You're proving u have no knowledge of Gerald Green's career. He didn't have it right between the ears, but he's always had a solid jumper, which is what I said earlier. He was not just a dunker. Going to "oh well he couldn't keep an NBA job" is childish. He's looking damn good in PHX this year as well

Cunningham is a 80% Ft shooter and gets to the line 8-10 times a game. You telling me our 2nd team can't use a guy like that when our jumpers aren't falling? 15-5-5 in 5 games (D-League) is not horrendous by any means. What is horrendous is his shot selection. Like I said he reminds me of a poor man's Rookie Westbrook. If Bud can help him improve his shot selection he can be a solid bench piece IMO.

He shoots like 30% in the dleague. That is TERRIBLE! You're just looking at basic numbers lol u really think somebody named Jared Cunningham is gonna get foul calls in the NBA? or that he's even gonna have the ball in his hands enough to have the chance to get a call?

It is definitely a confidence issue for Cunningham so you may be right. We saw Jenkins so far.... Why not give Cunningham a try?

I'm all for giving a shot, but by his dleague numbers its obvious he probably won't amount to anything. For example:

Jared Cunningham: http://www.nba.com/dleague/playerfile/jared_cunningham/career_stats.html

Gerald Green: http://www.nba.com/dleague/playerfile/gerald_green/career_stats.html

John Jenkins (only played 2 games last year): http://www.nba.com/dleague/playerfile/john_jenkins/career_stats.html

Shelvin Mack: http://www.nba.com/dleague/playerfile/tmp_shelvin_mack/career_stats.html

Y'all see the difference? All these guys may not be great in the NBA but they all balled out against lesser competition in the dleague. Cunningham is the only one that struggles

Edit: Oh yeah forgot Mike Scott as well :http://www.nba.com/dleague/playerfile/mike_scott/

Marcin Gortat, Matt Barnes, Jordan Farmar, Brandon Bass, Martell Webster all looked pretty average in the D-League. It is not the best indicator of how well you do in the NBA.

Average is one thing, but terrible is another. Not one of those guys were as bad as Cunningham has been and i'm pretty sure none have played there more than one season as well. All those guys u named only played a few games, except maybe Barnes. Cunningham has 23x more total minutes in the dleague than in the NBA, and still shooting 29% That's sad

I never said being good in dleague means you'll be good in the NBA, but being terrible in the dleague means you're most likely not gonna be in the NBA very long

Cwell is completely right Gerald Green has always had a lethal ability to hit 3's but he's incredibly streaky and he's not all that sharp either. I've known about him for a long time he's from Houston and went to a 2nd chance school as he was a moron who did a lot of stupid things that were against the law and he barely ended up graduating. But he's always been a highlight machine with the ability to score from anywhere. Cunningham isn't even in his league when it comes to shooting ability.

I don't know why they would bring him back either, but maybe this is just the final chance for him to either make it or get waived. They probably figured Jenkins needed a confidence boost and had to fill the spot. So Cunningham gets one last look until they find someone else, or bring Jenkins back or somehow, he proves he really belongs..
