Falcons release Asante Samuel and Stephen Nicholas today

I'm pretty ignorant of the economics of the NFL but these took me by surprise. Anyone have insight? Nicholas i guess they are looking for an upgrade? Samuel too expensive?

Gotta figure those are cap casualties, plus your young secondary played pretty well last year.

I said in an earlier post that I was pretty sure Asante was gone this offseason and Nicholas was pretty much gone by about week 5 of last year lol. We have younger cheaper replacements for both of those guys so shouldn't be a surprise

Cap casualties. We have Worrilow, Dent, Weatherspoon, and Bartu. Nicholas was underachieving and why give Asante minutes over our young corners (Trufant & Alford) who showed out last season. Our secondary is actually really good. It's just the lack of a dominate D-line & pass rush that makes the defense look so pathetic. You look at the elite defenses in the league and all of them start with dominate front sevens (Seattle w/ Byrant & Clemons/Avril, San Fran w/ Smith & Willis/Bowman, and Carolina w/ Hardy, Kuechly, & Short). Expect that first pick in the draft to be nothing other than a D-liner.

Yeah it was an obvious move on both players. Now Decoud and Reynolds should be next.
