The last time the Hawks were in first place was the 93-94 season. 21 years ago. Unique wore number 21. Is the curse officially over?

I'm just tripping y'all. I got a cold and this mucinex got me all crazy.

The stars finally seem to be alligning for the Hawks. As an Atlanta sports fan this reminds me of the Falcons superbowl run in 98. Hopefully we can continue this level of play and make the finals. In the meantime I'm gonna enjoy every second of our current standing as a top 1-3 team in the NBA.

1993-94 vs. 2014-15

The 20 year curse seems to be over.  Let's compare the teams and the situations.

1994:

Koncak

Willis

Nique

Augmon

Blaylock

2014:

Horford

Sap

DMC

Korver

Teague

Bench 1994:  Ehlo, Ferrell, Lang, Whatley, and Keefe

Bench 2014:  Sefalosha, Dennis, Antić, Brand, and Bazemore

Coach 1994:  Lenny Wilkens.

Coach 2014:  Coach Bud.

Top Eastern teams in 1994:  Knicks, Bulls, Magic, Pacers, Cavs, Nets, Heat.

Top Eastern teams in 2014:  Bulls, Raptors, Wizards, Cavs, Bucks, Nets, Heat.

Eastern Allstars 1994:
Kenny Anderson
B.J. Armstrong
Mookie Blaylock
Derrick Coleman
Patrick Ewing*
Horace Grant
Alonzo Mourning(1)
Charles Oakley
Shaquille O'Neal
Scottie Pippen*
Mark Price
John Starks
Dominique Wilkins*

Eastern Allstars 2014:

?

Just for grins.. the 2004-2005 Hawks were a 13 win team.  The worst team in franchise History.

New, this team is better than that team in every way but not having a superstar like Nique. That team was lucky MJ missed most of the season but unlucky Nique was traded.

I won't talk about better or worse.  However, I don't think that team was lucky at all. There was still the loaded Knicks, Pacers, and Shaq and the loaded Magic.

Mookie was viewed as the best defensive PG in the East.

Willis was dominating (19, 12, and 2).

Lenny had everybody playing defense and the ball was moving left to right with his motion offense.

Nique was thriving off of Lenny's offense and the combination of Mookie and Plasticman on defense was an opponents worse fear.

Then there was Ehlo off the bench.

If the two were to play....

It would be interesting.

1994 guards vs. 2014 guards.

Would Teague blow past Mookie?  Could anybody?  Would Korver be able to get open on Augmon?

I won't talk about Willis vs. Sapp... I'm drooling.

and we still haven't said a word about Nique.

Could DMC bother Nique?  Could anybody?

It would be fun to watch.

The ball movement on both sides would be crazy.

I'm assuming current NBA rules in a head to head.

Horford would own Koncak in a head-to-head. Kak could play post defense, but was a statue on defense.

Dennis would give the 94 team fits on offense.

Mookie v. Jeff would be interesting, but probably no different than Jeff v. Lillard this year.

Willis v. Millsap would be interesting- got to give Willis the edge there. Kevin was really good, even if he did have small hands.

Korver could get open v. Augman. The real problem is no one is there to cover Stacy on the break.

Nique would have a good game(s) v. DMC but they wouldn't be terribly efficient.

Ultimately, i think i take the current team in the win due to just how well they play together. In a 7 game series, it goes 7 games.
