Admin
Compared to BK's lottery failures and Babcock's everywhere failures...well, lots of people stand to look pretty decent. It is a low bar to clear! BK was at his best in the mid-first, though. He had two shots at #17 and #21 and nailed them both. If you count late lottery, Acie pulls that down some. If he could have been good in the lottery, even anything above deplorable, we might already have a title. But he certainly nailed the later picks. And no doubt Babcock probably has the worst long term drafting history in all major sports.
JETSET
Those are excellent picks but only one can be credited to Ferry and that's my point. And even in your list we've only got 2 guys in the last 10 years there and several failed lottery selections. I'm just pointing out that Indy's list is pretty bad. DS5
We didn't trade him for another first round pick so let's not muddy the waters with untruths. What do you mean? It's a lottery protected first... But a first nonetheless.
Admin
What do you mean? It's a lottery protected first... But a first nonetheless. It's lottery protected for 4 years then becomes a pair of 2nd round picks. Minnesota hasn't been in the playoffs since KG was a young player and I don't see that changing as the west gets better and better.

CBAreject
You can't deny he's failed on 2 out of 3 mid-1st round picks. I can give him a pass on Jenkins but his 1st round drafting is no better than I'd expect any of us to be able to do. Thankfully he's good in the 2nd round, good at finding value in free agency and he's lucky we had a good PG and C to start with. If we're thinking of it probabilistically, then hitting on 1/3 isn't bad at all. Let's say a genius drafter hits on 2/3 of his mid-round picks. Over such a small sample, he will hit on 1 or fewer of 3 picks 26% of the time. So it's very possible ferry could be an outstanding drafter but has just been unlucky. And if u add in his 2nd rounders he looks pretty good. Pete Babcock, however does not have a small sample. Go to basketball reference and just scroll through the drafts from the 90s and 2000s. See how prevalent 25 win players (win shares) are in the mid first.

This reminds me of being in a casino and watching some guy hit a couple of times in roulette and someone commenting on his system. Drafting in the lottery is easy. Drafting in the mid/late first is a crapshoot. BK's drafting in the lottery is proof that he was a horrific drafter. The circumstances behind the Smoove and Teague picks drove them more than BK's skill. One was a hometown boy and the other was whichever PG was left of the mid-round three Compared to BK's lottery failures and Babcock's everywhere failures...well, lots of people stand to look pretty decent. tonegully
Besides a top 10 or 5 pick. Do you really expect to hit on 50% of picks? I dont think so. Danny Ferry hasn't done any worst than GMs before him since 2000

Admin
How is Tavares a positive and not potential? Agreed. He's shown me nothing in his Euro videos to make me think he'll make it in the NBA.
Moderators AHF Posted February 12, 2015 Moderators Report Share Posted February 12, 2015 How is Tavares a positive and not potential? He is a positive for me because I think he shows tons of potential. That is a positive result months after the draft for a 7 footer taken in the second round, IMO. It is just potential, though, so if you are measuring based on actual results then you can adjust your rankings accordingly!
