RandomFan
Yeah, and that is really all we can do. It's completely pointless for a message boarder to put forth a list of HERE'S WHAT I WOULD DO ... OK that's great and maybe your strategy works? But we should only care about what the Hawks will do and/or predicting what they will actually do. So the QO decision will tell us a fair amount. And I doubt we find out until tomorrow or Wednesday. I wonder if it actually does signal us going after a bigtime free agent, or if it just signals that we need that money to resign Millsap and DMC? I'd vote that it doesn't signal either scenario as more likely, just that it gives us the opportunity to make either one happen.
Guest
Soooooo... we now got told. Conventional wisdom holding intact. Next? Seems the focus should be on who is courting Sap, no?To me, the easiest thing to look at for this is the EB Max for Sap:Season Salary2015--2016 $16,625,0002016--2017 $17,871,8752017--2018 $19,118,7502018--2019 $20,365,625Total: $73,981,250Versus what his actual Max is estimated to be:Season Salary2015--2016 $18,634,3362016--2017 $19,472,8812017--2018 $20,311,4262018--2019 $21,149,971Total: $79,568,614http://www.peachtreehoops.com/2015/6/16/8191291/2015-nba-free-agency-paul-millsap-atlanta-hawksIf the Salary Cap comes in at a higher number, then that increases the Max for Millsap. That likely increases the chances that he leaves. But it's safe to say that if Millsap has a high preference for winning, then he is going to take that EB Max. That would be the most likely scenario with a somewhat close 2nd being that Millsap gambles on a 1-year contract to get Bird Rights and then cash in even more:Season Early Bird Max 1- Year then Bird Max Difference2015--2016 $16,625,000 $12,350,000 -$4,275,0002016--2017 $17,871,875 $27,770,204 $9,898,3292017--2018 $19,118,750 $29,852,970 $10,734,2202018--2019 $20,365,625 $31,935,735 $11,570,1102019--2020 -------------- $34,018,500 ---2020--2021 -------------- $36,101,266 ---Total: $73,981,250 $172,028,675 $27,927,659Pretty much, the off-season comes down to DeMarre. If he gets hungry for the money (and someone is nutty enough to give him a Max deal), then bye-bye. I doubt it. We're likely bringing the whole crew back, possibly plus Edy and definitely plus someone with the RMLE.

Question: If we bring both Sap and DMC back, I'd assume that eats up pretty much all of our cap room. How would we go about adding Edy if that is true? My assumption would be we would have to use part of the RLME on him? Of course we could always move Mack or Scott's contracts. But I am asking other than that, what are the possibilities? Because I don't see any others.

If DeMarre is too stubborn or it's a deal breaker, then I don't think the Hawks bring Edy over. The RMLE cannot be for more than 2 years, so I think Atlanta avoids that scenario.Of course I could be wrong and Atlanta doesn't have a problem with having Edy as a RFA after 2 years, I just don't see it. Yeah, definitely don't see them wanting him hitting free agency an earlier than possible. But also, with Edy supposedly in line for larger money deals overseas, I'm wondering if the $525,093 would even be enough to lure him over. I guess it depends on how much he wants to play in the NBA and get his clock ticking towards free agency here.

Can also add on the international player payment about of $625,000.http://www.peachtreehoops.com/2015/6/27/8744753/atlanta-hawks-roster-walter-tavares-lamar-patterson
