Thursday night - VS The Saints = = Pitiful!

Some things we heard from the announcers on Thursday night football.  Others we learned by watching:

There is really no rivalry between the Falcons and the Saints since Sean Payton and Drew Brees completely

dominate this series with something like a 14-4 record before last night.

Both these men have brilliant minds and are both super talented.  Also, the Saints have the greatest fans ever.

Yep.  We more or less heard all these things from the completely unbiased announcers.

Things we observed:

Falcons "no defense" pass defense is just that.  Non existent.  Tight end Ben Watson, aka "The Invisible Man"

can go wherever he wants to on the field and the brilliant, talented Brees always knows where he is and knows

that he will not be covered.

Dan Quinn, Falcons brilliant first year coach, a defensive genius, has no idea how to begin to stop the Saints

passing offense.  With a very weak pass rush and not being able to closely cover any receiver, the results

were very obvious Thursday night.

Falcons offensive line is slow and weak and have no solution when the Saints decide to use their power rush

to completely dominate Atlanta.

Falcons injured wide receiver Jones was so good he was almost up to "Mediocre" and was slowed so badly

he found it impossible to get open but for mere inches.

Apparently, this year's Falcon team, with their inability to hold on to the ball, are completely intimidated by

the N. O. Saints.  "Here, you take the ball.  We didn't mean to try and spoil your night!"

Being a fan of the Atlanta Falcons since they played their first game ever, all this is hard for this old man

to swallow.  Ugh!  Tastes terrible!

The pass rush is definitely a problem but to be fair if the offense hadn't been a clown show the defense wouldn't have been working so friggin hard.    They learned a valuable lesson.  You can't dig a big hole against a true elite QB.  Some of our other come from behind wins were aided by opposing QBs screwing up.   So I'm not going to fault the defense too much when the offense is making egregious mistakes on almost every possession.

I'm also a huge believer in Ryan but he's had a lot of bad throws this year.   The one thing i think was effective under Mike Smith was the no huddle.   Ryan doesn't seem to be finding any 2nd or 3rd options.
