The Tank Thread

They tanked 4 years and now they're going to win 48-50 games with three All-Star+ talents at 19, 21, and 24. They're also getting LA's lottery pick and they can create a ton of cap space. They're only going to get much better with any luck in the health department.

Low-level playoff team would be us last season. 43 wins with a maxed out roster. But I'm sure Sixers fans would trade for that "winning culture" in a heartbeat.

If Philly goes to the ECF this year, KB will still be saying that tanking didn't work.  They could have a 3-ring dynasty in 5 years and he will be shaking his fist at their success.

253 losses over the previous 4 years, and out of 5 high lottery picks, they have a total of two quality players.  Wow!  What a great strategy!!  Lose a lot of games, and miss on the majority of your high picks......and still no championship caliber team after 5 years.

Right, they weren’t even that good at tanking and they still got a 50-win team after 4 losing seasons.

They have won 50 games this year?  This must be some of that new math they are teaching in schools.

A lot of people on here point to Philly as a reason to tank... Do you guys even consider how it was done???

2013 - Michael Carter Williams.   - Couldn't run an offense.

2014 Embiid - Injured.   Payton - Traded.

2015 Okafor and 2 dudes they stuffed in Europe.

2016 Simmons - Injured.

2017 - Fultz - Injured and disappointing.

Philly has been in the position that they are in because they have taken players that were injured or got injured before the year started.  So they never had the problem of having a player good enough to elevate them to the midrounds.   Hence, they had all these lottery picks.   Not to mention the busts and the players that they traded away for nothing.

That's not exactly a plan, it's luck.

There is a reason they are called unicorns.  Imagine if the 2013 and 2014 drafts had fallen the way the Hawks wanted them to.  In 2013, they were targeting Giannis.  In 2014, they were targeting Kristaps Porzingis until he pulled out.  Imagine getting Giannis and having Porzingis stay in the draft and getting those two guys in back to back years, developing them behind Paul and Al.

That same Giannis whos the leader of a" low-level" playoff team? lol

The same Giannis who is a top 5 player in the entire league right now.  The combination of Giannis and Kristaps would have been unstoppable on both ends.

Lebron,Durant, Harden, WEstbrook, Curry, AD,  Kawhi, Kyrie, I could go on and on. Top 5 my azz..But anyway.. Carry on.

Top 6 players: LeBron, Kevin Durant, Kawhi Leonard, Steph Curry, James Harden, and Giannis.  Giannis has a 31% usage and is shooting a 60% TS, averaging 27.2 PPG, 10 RPB, 5 assists per game, along with 1.5 blocks per game and 1.5 steals per game.

Basically, Atlanta isn't going to get a player nearly as good as Giannis is at the top of this draft.  Giannis is who people think Marvin Bagley III is going to be, but he lacks both the length and the defensive instincts to be that good, as well as the skill level that Giannis has.

lol. Let me know when he wins anything. Hell win a playoff series why dontcha? Im notnearly as high on Giannis as you are obviously. So a top 5 player in the league has his team sitting in the 8th seed in the weak East??Ok

We would be very lucky to draft Giannis in this draft.  This tank wouldn’t have been necessary if he’d fallen 2 more spots.  There have been lots of great players on mediocre teams.  One of them was Michael Jordan.  Giannis is 23.  When MJ was 23 he scored 37 ppg and his team went 40-42.  The conversation then was that a selfish player like MJ didn’t make his team better.  Lol.

That shows that it takes more than a top 5 player to be a championship caliber team.
