A major move is trading to get a player who will make a major difference in the win total on this team.  Capela and Dedmon are nice players, but they are not guys who are going to move the needle.  They aren’t the difference in winning 23 games this season and winning 37 games.

If they had gone out and made a deal for Karl Anthony Towns, that would have been a major move, because he is a guy who could add 8-10 wins to this team.

Have you seen the reviews on KAT?  Dude was on a historic personal losing streak.

Through the rest of November, the Wolves managed to stay above .500 at 10-8, but even as Towns increased his offensive numbers (alas, including his turnovers), his defensive acumen began to slip. His individual defensive rating of 111.9 points allowed was well above the team mark of 108.6 and the starters no longer benefited from his presence at that end of the court.

Move to December, and the onset of the two-month trough in which the Wolves have posted a 5-24 record. Towns missed more than half those games (15 in all) but remained a beast on offense when he played. The Wolves scored 117 points per 100 possessions with him on the court during that span, a whopping 10.8 points per 100 possessions more than when he sat or was sidelined.

But on defense he gave it all back. The team’s defensive rating with him on the court was a ridiculous 122.8 points allowed per 100 possessions, 11.2 points more than the team rating of 111.6 points allowed, and 6.2 points more per 100 possessions than the Washington Wizards, the worst defensive team in the NBA.

We are, absolutely incredibly, not out of it.

I had to laugh at the fact the Hawks are only 7.5 games back after how dismal this season has been. It's not improbable but I can't see them leap frogging that many teams. The schedule is easier but the Hawks have a tendency to play down to their competition so there are no games I can comfortably pencil in as sure wins.

We will be 6.5 games back if we win tonight...
