  1. My goal would be to have a 7 footer available for situations. They don’t have to be a starter, or at least not an every game starter, unless they prove themselves to be more consistently impactful than OO or other options. When we go up against Jokic or Embiid, I want someone who can get in there and slow them down for 20+ minutes and give six fouls if necessary. They wouldn’t be needed when we play Miami or Golden State.
  2. Whether we use him as a starter or as primary BU for both C and PF positions, he’s a player that helps. This roster NEEDS versatility to be able to play big or small depending on matchups, and OO gives us some versatility. To follow up on that line of thinking, it is detrimental for the Hawks to draft a legitimate 7 footer in this draft to help hold the line when we play the big bodies OO struggles against 1v1.
  3. You know that team lost, right?
  4. We likely will with our first pick assuming it’s in the lottery. This however is some serious wishful thinking. We aren’t getting a top 2 pick, and the top picks in this draft aren’t worthy of trading the assets needed to move up for.
  5. NIL $$ helps to keep fringe players to stay an extra year or two, improving upperclassmen in general. If we walk away from this draft without adding any size (7’er ideally, would settle for 6’11”), I am going to be pissed.
  6. But if they crash and burn, and KAT is more of a scapegoat than Gobert or Ant, aka more worthy of trading, why should we consider giving up assets to acquire and pay him? If he can’t maintain or level up in the playoffs or get out of the first or second round playing with Gobert and Ant, how does he help us get anywhere?
  7. No. I don’t think anyone is good enough in this draft to give up additional assets to trade up for. I like Sheppard, but he’s not a sure enough thing for me to trade up to get. If he’s available and we’re picking at 8ish, then it wouldn’t be a stretch to draft him there, though I don’t think a 6’2” PG is who we should take there. He outperforms his physical limitations, but I’m not 100% convinced he will continue that in the NBA. He could be Stockton, or he could be a career backup. @NBASupes if both Sheppard and Edey are on the board when we pick, who are you taking?
  8. Good post, @NBASupes i think you’re right, this draft leans heavy on C and PG. Assuming we keep both picks this year, I think our first priority with the first pick should be C so long as they don’t overreach on a player bc all the other Cs were drafted ahead of them. As much as I love Reed, I don’t see a reason to draft him with our first pick. Maaaaaaybe if we trade DJ it would open some playing time for him, but if we did trade him, I would want a vet to fill his time on the court not a rookie. All of what I just said though should be taken with a grain of salt. As much as I want whoever we draft to fit in, I don’t want the Hawks to reach on anyone to make it work. Draft BPA and deal with it (a la Haliburton and the Kings). The talent pool in this draft is wide, just not particularly deep. There’s good value to be found through at least 1 1/2 rounds.
  9. I hope my parents’ favorite soda doesn’t bow to puritanical peer pressure.
  10. Or they could just hire the And1 team to do a dunk “competition” show.
  11. EXACTLY. Lauri then (when the trade proposal was out there) is definitely NOT the same as Lauri now. It hurts a lot now looking back with 20/20 hindsight, but it wasn’t such a huge miss at the time. Also, many had a much higher opinion of JC’s value then than what it was when he finally was traded.
  12. I may be mistaken, but I thought they showed him at the previous game, when Trae was like still four 3s away from his record. I assumed Mookie couldn’t stomach watching two Hawks games in a row.
  13. Has anyone ever noticed any other Hawks or other NBA players wearing Trae’s shoes? Is that even a thing? Do any players ever wear other player’s shoes if they don’t have their own line?
  14. You know one thing he brings that we’ve been lacking….availability. Dude missed like one game out of 120-something games. And that was due to the flu. Pretty remarkable for such a big body.
  15. My feed via league pass kept freezing. Finally in the fourth I realized there was no point in trying to continue (probably like how the hawks were feeling at the same time). I was scared to come here and follow the thread, so imma just skip this one now.
  16. He’s someone of interest to me, though IDK if I would want him at the draft range he will go. I feel like our experience with him would be like getting a younger, better version of Clint, including our problems with clogging the lane that we’ve had trouble resolving. There are a number of legit 7 footers in the draft that are intriguing. Sarr, Flip, Clingan, maybe even Kel’el Ware. I was hyped on Big Z at UK, but he’s come back to earth a little. I’d still love to grab him with a late first or second round pick. All kind of depends on where they’re drafted IMO. I think there’s good depth in this draft. No top end talent, but plenty of value throughout.
  17. We do love our injury prone players.
  18. Exactly! That’s exactly why he came here. It’s good to see it when it’s working like we hoped.
  19. I feel a little icky just from watching the Cs.
  20. I wish they’d sub White in for Brown so they’d have the whitest five on the court.
  21. Man, why the hell is Trae wearing green shoes in this game?
