Do we know if someone offered a 2nd round pick for either player? It takes two teams to make a trade.

Assuming Millsap will be moving on, Collins is projected to be our PF going forward. No need for Griffin.

I like Ersan also, at the right price. He is a good swing man between the 4 & 5 positions. I think we look to lock up THJ to a multi-year contract. Moose is OK, again at the right price, as the 3rd 4/5. We can probably move on from the others and look to develop younger, more athletic players.

I'd like to see us make a trade for one of the young Sixer SFs or PFs. There is no way they can find the minutes for all these players, also factoring in the #3 pick in this years draft.

Melo would destroy the team chemistry we are developing. Not sure if he is willing to submit himself to what is best for the team rather than his stat sheet.

One's income and/or profession does not permit others to be disrespectful and get personal with comments. It's OK to boo or jeer him for his performance on the court however most other things are out of bounds.

Millsap is NOT a 3. While he can play the position for a few minutes in certain situations, this is not his best position. How many times has this been said?

I hope we keep up with Tavares as he attempts to catch on in the NBA.

It must be said again, Millsap is not a SF.

The opportunity to get younger by acquiring quality players through trades is a much better option that going through a rebuild. Our player development process has been good thus far and I believe they can help whatever assets we get from a trade.

Carroll and Baze both showed significant improvement in their second year with the team and system. I predict we will see the same type of improvement from THJ next season. We saw glimpses of what he can do this past season.

I posted this in another topic and decided to include it here of hopefully getting more feedback. I am NOT a fan of blowing up the team but making improvements through trades. I believe we have assets that other teams desire and could get back a package that sets us up for the future without compromising the core. Philly getting the #1 can work to the Hawks advantage as they will likely take a SF in that spot. There was talk around the trade deadline that the 76ers were interested in one of our point guards and were considering including one of the young big men in the package. How about a return package of Grant or Covington along with Noel? The 76ers can accelerate there progress by getting a floor general and the Hawks can potentially fill two spots, especially if Al decides to move on. If we add someone like Korver (who started his career) in Philly, it could bring back a larger return, especially if another team got involved.

While I understand your desire to keep him, it is better to trade someone like Korver too early than too late. He started his career in Philly so there may be an emotional tug for him to finish there. Add to the fact he has an expiring contract after next season, it could increase the size of the return for us. Thinking like a GM, I think there are many capable 2/3 players that we can easily plug into this system while giving us better defense at those positions.

Think back two years ago when the Hawks signed Carroll and Millsap. Millsap was a known quantity and we probably wondered how he would fit in given he played the same position as Horford (or at least the position many would like to see him play). I bet most said "Who" when we signed Carroll. Fast forward two years later and we see why both were signed. Player and talent evaluation is important, especially with the system we have implemented. I'd like to think it was a team approach in deciding to sign both players. One could categorize both a 'bargain basement' players that we got a huge return on investment. I'm comfortable that we can upgrade the team with a key free agent that will both complement and upgrade what we are building in the ATL. Let's not forget that the presence of Grant Hill can also help with player recruitment. It has been reported that he wants to focus on the management side of things however I'm sure if he is needed to help with convincing the right person to come the ATL, he would get involved. IMO, this will be an exciting offseason. It will be interesting to see what we look like in October.

If we ran a traditional offense, I'd be interested in Greg Monroe. Given what we currently run, I've concluded he is not a fit. There are other free agent big men we should target that fit our system. Don't forget, Monroe is not a 'rim protector' either, according to reports. This should be a great focus for a big man.

A comment from another blog that is appropriate, Giving a draft grade right now is like grading a house builder after the foundation is poured. Kinda silly when you don't know what the final product is going to look like when completed. The next season begins on July 1 with the free agents. Let's wait and see how that turns out. By itself, this deal provides a known commodity over a prospect. We don't know at this time how this will turn out.

It is great news to hear top tier players mention the Hawks as a possible destination and not as 'column fodder'. This may be our first chance to sign a big name free agent since Dikembe. It will be interesting following these developments over the summer.

Looking at compensation as a percentage of the salary cap is a good way to perform analysis and ultimately make business decisions.

I wish Bernie Marcus had an interest in the Hawks as he would be a GREAT owner with ties to the local community. Otherwise perhaps some of those that bid on the Clippers would consider bidding on the Hawks.
