I think players would gladly take less to play for a legit team or ride on the coat tails of a super team in the making than suit up for this dumpster fire.
I understand a roster examination was completely necessary and changes had to happen, but to not even add a single NBA player this off season is downright sad.
Chances are they won't meet minimum salary. It's basically 10 million less than the cap so roughly 89 million needs to be spent on player salaries. Regardless of if they don't spend 89 million or not they will actually spend the minimum. Whatever the amount they are short by is distributed amongst the players they have on the roster.
If this is in anyway related to matching Hardaway's offer than Schlenk might be the worst GM in the league. Yes the Hawks are the league wide dump. For a small fee you can get rid of all your trash and junk. In some cases your trash might be recycled and put to good use. In other instances your junk will simply be deemed not worthy for anything and the Hawks will just let it go for nothing and eventually it lands somewhere and can help someone else out.
Lol at the Hawks roster. Schlenk is clowning and needs to get his head examined if he thinks this team is competing until the last month of the season. I don't know when the first game is, but this squad isn't competing after October.
Minimum is something around 89 million. I was under the impression the Hawks had no room because they haven't renounced Muscala, Hump, and Thabo. I think the Hawks are maxed out and don't actually need to spend anymore money.
I don't get this fascination with the word flexible. Does Schlenk even know what it means? Do we even know what he means? His vision or whatever he has isn't realistic. It sounds good when you say it, but it's not something that is attainable.
Why can't the Celtics take on anymore salary? With Hayward they are sitting at just over the 99 million cap. There is luxury tax that they can pay and continue to be over the cap? Cleveland is at like 136 million in salaries right now. Did the Boston owner make it clear they wont go into the luxury tax?
I would rather have a roster constructed of proven players and drafted talent. I think there needs to be a balance between the two. I will give Schlenk a clean slate since he inherited a giant mess and is trying to sort it out. He can't be to blame because the Hawks have a lack of NBA players on the roster. I just want to see a move that speaks to that from him first.
And guys like Anthony Bennett, Royce White, Fab Melo, Thomas Robinson, and Marquis Teague are why the draft is a crap shoot and you can't solely build on a team from draft picks.
