  1. Hey @Sothronand @Mikey now that the 15th has come and gone, what timeline do you think we're looking at. Pretty much the trade deadline?
  2. In fact you could summarize that we have $25 million of cap space available for a trade, and about $12.5 million available for a Free Agent (the Mid Level Exception). That's a lot of flexibility, thank you LF.
  3. I just want to say this now. This inside information about KAT has sprinkled pixie dust on my evening. And even if the trade falls apart, as any talks can, it will still have been well worth it. But I’m just waiting for some dumbass to get pissy in the event that the insiders are “wrong.” You would be missing the whole point of the fluidity of inside information. And you would be woefully ungrateful for the joy that we are all now experiencing, as we lay our heads down to sleep, and dream, tonight.
  4. Signing DJM to this extension has to surely boost the grade for this offseason, no matter what happens next. Maybe it goes from an A- to an A. And an upgrade at center could shoot it to an A+. But no matter what this team is looking deep, talented, and well-coached.
  5. Actually, it appears with this trade framework that DeJounte goes to Toronto along with DeAndre. So our lineup would be looking more like: Trae, AJ/Bogi, J Brown, Bey/OOO, Capela I think would still be a pretty interesting result, but I'm 50/50 also on it. I go back and forth in my mind. But it brings us back to the original trade issue for this offseason: What about Clint? Is there any remaining momentum to deal CC, as a separate deal or worked into this behemoth deal?
  6. Even with no further moves (and even without a big trade we could still sign a MLE rotation wing or PG), you’re looking at the following 10 man rotation: Trae 30+ minutes DJM 30+ DH 30+ OO 30+ Bogi 20+ JJ 20+ Bey 20+ CC 20+ AJ 10-15 Kobe 5-10 Lundy 5-10 The offensive firepower and depth were already there, and the offense should be more consistent with more shooters now in the rotation, and greater ball movement under Snyder. The defensive improvement is even more dependent on Snyder’s influence and the staff’s teaching, but the potential is there to at least become an average defense. Then look at the Eastern Conference landscape: Boston/Milwaukee conference leaders 2nd tier: Philly, possibly with Miami if Dame joins. 3rd tier: Brooklyn, NY, Cleveland, Atlanta 4th tier: Toronto Philly could easily drop to the next tier if they lose Harden. And the same for Miami (if no Dame), who didn’t even make the top 8 last year and has lost most of their bench. So in my opinion the East is pretty wide open, and it could only require the cohesion that comes with a top tier coach (and his system) to take a talented, developing (JJ, AJ, OO), and deep Atlanta team solidly into the playoffs.
  7. I agree with your assessments @NBASupes: They hit on their draft once again. They traded a non-fitting player with a bad contract, in JC, without giving up an asset, and actually gaining essentially 2 assets: a huge TPE, and a 2nd rd pick (the latter of which are still useful currency as we’ve seen.) They were highly opportunistic in the HOU trade. And both of the trades set them up for a big swing consolidation trade (KAT, PG, Siakam), or at least the ability to now use the MLE on another quality rotation player. They can also wait and be opportunistic again with the possible dealing of CC and/or DeAndre to teams that miss out on the FA merry-go-round. When you sprinkle on top of all of this the re-establishment of Hawks University with their assistant coaching hires, the assembling of a wave of new students for Hawks U (Kobe, Mo, Lundy, TyTy, Usman), and a full summer for Snyder to implement his system, I also believe we’ve had an A-grade summer that could still go to an A+ if that big trade comes through. But I don’t believe you can judge the offseason until mid July at the earliest (after the gathering of GM’s at summer league). I’ve come a long way from the initial depression upon hearing of the JC trade, to where I’m now pretty happy, especially considering all the empty calories consumed by many of the other teams in their FA feeding frenzy.
  8. How about Vuc as a stretch 5? He's a free agent this summer. Perhaps some sort of sign and trade in which CC or JC are shipped elsewhere.
  9. So you're saying that despite their best efforts to overcome this fit issue, and even with a new coach, the odds of success are slim, no matter how bad the Hawks Wanna Be Starting Something?
  10. Acute asthma is a flare-up or "exacerbation," where the symptoms are out of control and not manageable. That's often when an asthma sufferer has to go into the ER to get a breathing treatment. Otherwise, asthma patients have "asthma symptoms" that are controlled day to day with use of medications and/or an inhaler. When there is an "acute" asthma situation, the inhalers alone are no longer cutting it.
  11. @NBASupes What has been the influence of Landry Fields? He was touted for his relationships around the league, when he was brought in. Have these relationships contributed to trades and Free Agent wooing? If Travis had a weakness, at least early on, it was his trades, starting with his weak-sauce means of offloading Dwight Howard. But he seems to have improved considerably when it comes to value exchange in his trades. You don't hear much about Fields, so I was curious as to whether you had some insights on him.
  12. I think you've put together a pretty accurate last as to who the Hawks are likely to zero in on. The only exception I believe is Trey Murphy, as he is generally regarded to be a poor dribbler who statistically has relied on being assisted for the vast majority of his baskets. And it is now looking like Duarte will be picked ahead of #20. So that leaves Mann, Butler, C. Thomas, K. Jones, and Springer as the likely suspects.
  13. Hey, Supes, what do you think of swingman Aaron Henry of Michigan State? I think he could be a real sleeper in the mid/late first round. The first couple of years in college he was a real defensive presence and glue guy. But this past year he was forced to be their primary initiator and he really thrived, adding that dynamic element to his game. And his shooting seems pretty solid, as he works further on it with Mike Miller.
  14. By the way, you know who was on Ron Jirsa's coaching staff at UGA... Travis Schlenk (born 1976 or 1977) is the general manager and president of the Atlanta Hawks of the NBA. Prior to joining the Hawks in May 2017, Schlenk was the assistant general manager of the Golden State Warriors, having joined that team prior to the 2004-05 season as a video scout.[1] He has also worked as a video coordinator for the Miami Heat from 1999 to 2003, and as Director of Basketball Operations for the University of Georgia basketball program from 1998 to 1999.[2] I couldn't find an old UGA pic, but this was at least one with hair
  15. I have to disagree. Schlenk has succeed in the majority of his task list: 1) Hit on vast majority of 1st round picks (this is downright rare) 2) Avoid any bad/unmoveable contracts. 3) Spent cap space in 2020 offseason rather than wait for the 2021 offseason that is now largely void of talent. FAILINGS: 1) Hiring of LP. Clearly his biggest mistake. 2) Failed to fill out the bench in 2019-2020. A lower level failing, since this was still a rebuilding/tank year anyway. The jury is still out on the actual talent acquired in the 2020 season, but the contracts are all very moveable. In contrast, LP, as much as I like and respect him, failed in just about every facet of his job. Thus, I don't think TS and LP are even remotely comparable in their culpability to date.
  16. Here's a dark horse: Anthony Grant of Dayton. Head coaching experience, admittedly in college, but a former NBA assistant. And he's considered an offensive innovator. I want no part of Jeff Van Gundy. He's been in the garage too long, and even before that he couldn't make it work with Yao Ming and Tracy McGrady. Same for Mark Jackson, but for different reasons. There was the aforementioned bizarre drama within the organization with him and his assistant coaches and management. But I'm a Bay Area guy also, and there weren't too many fans around who were sad to see him and his bare-bones offensive scheme leave town. Jackson's situation brings up the general point, that what is best for the team may not be fair to the coach. It may not be fair to Pierce to be let go at this juncture, with these injuries, but most who have closely watched the team (and seeing the Athletic report on how many players Pierce had already lost) see this change of voice as being in the best interests of the organization. Mike Woodson got the same treatment. The national media saw a guy who won more games each season with a rebuilding team. Atlanta fans saw a guy who needed to go. But with all that said, I'm fine with seeing what Nate can do, and then giving him the full-time gig if the players respond.

    It's done:

Less than .001% chance of making it to the NBA, let alone excelling. That's why they deserve every penny of it!

I dunno. This is the same query posed to me by my non-Hawks-fan friend last night. But he doesn't watch them play. Last I checked it was Trae putting pressure on the organization to acquire more talent for the sake of winning. And it's been Trae night after night setting up his teammates, only for them to clank shots off the rim. Sure, he could stand to play some defense. But he's busting his butt every single night in seek of victory, with, until now, teammates who weren't all capable of the same. Trae's ready to quarterback a winning team. We just finally added a team around him to do so.
  19. Couldn't the same be said for Tony Ressler? I think they are two pretty similar owners: emotionally, and financially, invested, and trying to find the right balance between involvement and meddling.
  20. I think that every time I see him. And, speaking of Billy Corgan: “Today is the greatest, day I’ve ever known!”
  21. I agree with this. If Okongwu steps up through the course of this season, I think you will see Capela moved by draft time next year, for expiring salaries and a pick. Then you potentially open up a max slot once again. I believe that this is the tentative plan already. And all the more reason to go ahead and lock up JC this offseason.
  22. I actually would like to see JC Re-signed this off-season. But if he asks for even close to max money then wait till he is an RFA next year and then those teams you listed can PROVE that they would pay him, and then we match.
