Premium Member Diesel Posted May 8, 2003 Premium Member Report Share Posted May 8, 2003 I have to bring this up again. We should be encouraged in Atlanta because Reef is really the BEST PF in the East. I hear people saying Oneal, Walker, and Martin... But look again. Oneal and Indy bowed out of the playoffs because Oneal was UNABLE to produce offense. It's like he needs some PG to create for him. Give him an easy Layup on a fast break. However, in the halfcourt set, Oneal pulled the biggest disappearing act this side of Terry McMillan. Can't respect that. Walker. Have you seen him lately? He Sucks. His three point shooting is horrid. I can't say that he can be consistent because he takes some many awkward shots. He's a junk player and his team will suffer becuase of it. Kmart. Now, Kmart brings uptempo to the position. BUT... Kmart is nothing without Kidd. In fact, didn't Reef Dominate Kmart? Now there are others... PJ Brown, Gooden, Thomas.... I think Reef is just better. Gooden is on the way though.
Guest
Well, one it's known that the east has a lack of big men...O'Neal even though he is a better AND WAY MORE TALENTED than Reef....he will not win games for you either. Walker is better than Reef at passing/defending. Tell me when Reef averages over 5APG...He'll never do it. When you compare Reef to the rest of the PF's Duncan KG Gasol Wallace Malone Brand Dirk O'Neal Martin There is also Amare Stoudamire who will be better...a healthy Dice is better...Gooden could end up being better " In fact, didn't Reef Dominate Kmart?" Not in the playoffs because Reef has never been there.Reef can do well because all of the games he has played so far in his career have been non important.Tell me a game he has ever been in where it has been important. Not only that,Reef had decline this year. He's a player on the slip at what?26?
Premium Member Diesel Posted May 8, 2003 Author Premium Member Report Share Posted May 8, 2003 I guess those years, Nique didn't make the playoffs, he was not one of the best Sfs in the East? NBA? Your continual failing is that you place Team accomplishments on the shoulders of ONE player. Seattle didn't make the playofffs, does that mean that Ray Allen or Lewis are Lacking? You added Gasol on your list of PFs... yet his team has gone no where and is going no where. Same with Brand. However, let's come back to the East. Had Indy had Reef, they'd be in the second round. Reef can create his own offense. That's what Oneal failed at doing.
Guest
I guess those years, Nique didn't make the playoffs, he was not one of the best Sfs in the East? NBA?" Nique has played in some important games....Reef NEVER HAS IN THE NBA.His never done anything besides in the regular season games nobody cares about. "yet his team has gone no where and is going no where. Same with Brand. " They are below the playoff guys on my list(that list wasn't in order)and they are better than Reef. "ad Indy had Reef, they'd be in the second round. Reef can create his own offense. That's what Oneal failed at doing." Can and actually doing are two different things.Reef could step up, but he doesn't..Reef could average 25PPG, but he will not....Reef could do better in pressure situations, but he doesn't step up to the challenge most times. And as I said, his numbers tailed off across the board this year. Not only has he already reached his peak... Is he headed downward already?? What's you're response to his decline across the board? KB21
Where did he decline? He declined in the # of turnovers he makes. That's the only part of the game where I see a definite drop in his stats, and it is a good thing. Career: 20.7 ppg, 8.3 rpg, 2.9 apg, .465 FG, .302 3P, .807 FT, 3.02 TO, 1.13 spg, 0.92 bpg 2002: 19.9 ppg, 8.4 rpg, 3.0 apg, .478 FG, .350 3P, .841 FT, 2.65 TO, 1.07 spg, 0.46 bpg Again, where is this drop off in numbers? It isn't happening. Reef isn't on the downside of his career. He's just 26 years old, so he isn't even in the prime of his career yet. All he will do is get better. What Reef brings to the table that all of those other power forward except for Rasheed Wallace and Antonie Walker don't is that he can play the small forward position equally as well as the power forward position. Versatile.
Guest
They declined over last year.Almost in every catagory. O'Neal can play PF/C...Gasol can play 4 and the 5.... Martin can probably play some SF.... He only blocked half the shots he did year ago,his scoring was down, his rebounds droped also. His 19/8 isn't that impressive considering he doesn't block shots and can't defend or pass.
KB21
Oh, so his scoring went down 8 tenths of a point over his career average. WOW!! He's really losing it. It has nothing to do with Glenn Robinson stealing shots from him. Not to mention that Shareef was the 16th most efficient scorer in the NBA. Please! If you hate the Hawks so much and think every player on every other team is so much better, then go root for those teams.
Guest
He should be grabbing down 10RPG and playing better defense. His scoring shouldn't dip either due to lack of overall scorers we have. After SAR/ JT/Dog the well runs really dry. If it was Finley/Nash/Dirk replacing our"big three"they'd all average 20PPG because they would be the only scorers. He needs to hit the boards more and play better defense...learning to pass better would be good.. But he hasn't improved since his second year so I've about gave on improvement. He's probably one of the 10-12 highest paid players and he isn't a top 10 player. Just because I realize our players aren't up to snuff doesn't mean I should root for another team. The fact that Reef could, but doesn't do better is what makes me sick about him.He doesn't want to be the best he can be. And yes I'm angry because these guys couldn't give us more....More than a lousy 35 wins.
jjjohns3
Blocking shots doesn't just have to do with Height or jumping ability. You have to have timing. ~Peace P.S. Diesel did you even watch the IND/BOS series???? O'Neal consistently put up 22/15 every game, He tried to own up to the responsibility afterwards but truth is that the losses have to be tossed on Reggie Miller{shot under 30%,averaged lessed than 10 ppg}
Guest
I've only watched some playoff games this year. The games dont excite me like they used to and I really don't know why. I can't comment more on what O'Neal done in the Boston series. As far as Reef goes,he just don't seem to want it bad enough. Even if he was the best PF in the east...as weak as the east is that doesn't mean all that much.
Premium Member Diesel Posted May 9, 2003 Author Premium Member Report Share Posted May 9, 2003 Honestly, Reggie didn't play that Much. Artest Harrington were out there getting scorched by Paul Pierce most of the time. Reggie is probably one of the best clutch shooters in history, yet he rode the bench for most of the series. As far as Oneal's scoring... Most of it came from the line. However, watching the games, he did not produce from the field. He shot maybe 39% for the series. For a PF who is the top scorer for his team, that's not so good.

Guest
You'd probably really believe it. I wonder if his gold game has improved over the years? He gets alot of fishing time also.lol
jjjohns3
There you go talkin' with your head up your BUTT.Obviously Reggie is running outta gas & everyone in the league knows it. He played just as much as he played any other time. The Discussion wasn't about Reggie's minutes, they were about how u talk about O'Neal not picking up his load. Guest
Reggie's aging...but the main decline between this year and last was his injuries limiting his pt during most of the season and therefore the team failed to est. him as the "go to guy"...combined with no one else stepping up consistently to be that guy. Premium Member Diesel Posted May 9, 2003 Author Premium Member Report Share Posted May 9, 2003 Hello, you brought Reggie into this. Half of Indiana was mad because of Reggie's lack of minutes.... Secondly, back to the real Subject. ONEAL did nothing during the important times of the game. He was a none factor. Yes he got 20 and even 33 on one occassion, but for the most part, throwing the ball to him was like going to Ira. He made no impact on the game because he cannot create without a play called for him or the PG giving him a setup. He has no back to the basket game. No low Post feel. If Reef had been there in his place, I think Indy would be in Round 2.
