Some Positive Thoughts on the game tonite

I know most of you are pissed at the way this game went south in a hurry, but again, we weren't supposed to beat GS tonite and if we continue to beat teams we have a better record than and lose to teams with better records than us, then we will finish 4 games below .500

The good:

-Marvin looked good for the 1st time in a long while 20pts....hitting his patented 20 footer

-Horford was solid again......why didn't they go to him more on the block like Smitty was

saying, when he had mismatches?

-Joe looked great in the 1st half and hit a good percentage of 3's. Unfortunately he didn't realize when he cooled off and again lead he team in turnovers.....a guard shouldn't lead the team in TO's.

The bad:

-Bibby's worst game since being a Hawk. His shot was off for the 2nd straight game

-Joe continues to ball hog and turnover the ball too much

-Too much half court jumpshots and half coourt offence in the 2nd half. I guess Woodson decided he wanted to slow things down ???

-Where's The D? We had NO ANSWER to Golden State's perimeter shooting or for Baron Davis.

Agreed. GS was looking for revenge after their home loss to the Hawks and they are trying to keep their playoff spot in the west. Next year, if we don't trounce them, I will be pissed.

-Yea, Marvin had a great game last night. He will be ridiculous if he can work on his 3's and low post game for next year.

-Just wanted to add that Salim had a descent game. He didn't make many shots but got to the free throw line and had 12 points in 13 minutes of play. Now, if he would just bump up his assists.

-Chidress can play D. The box scores don't show it, but he was on his man all the time, arms up, ready to pounce.

-JJ let the Warriors trap him on several occasions. It was like he didn' t know how to handle the double team. I think that part of the problem is the lack of effort from the other Hawks to get open when JJ is in trouble. They all just stand around, someone HAS to be open.

-Where's the D??? That's a good question. We left their shooters, not just Davis, wide open on several occasions. Why didn' the Hawks double team and harass Davis more?

-Also, I don't understand why towards the end of the 4th we didn't put in Salim and Richardson and just start chucking up 3's. Sure, this is a bit of a desperation move but trading 2's with the Warriors wasn't working.

-As stated above, we should have passed the ball to Horford more often.

Another positive: i don't usually prop up Smoove but his effort when we got down was exceptional. It seemed that he singlehandedly kept the margin around 8-10 for quite a while with hustle plays and some defense. If we could have hit a couple of shots at that time we could have turned the flow of the game - we were getting some pretty good looks too.

The 1st half was a thing of beauty......if you like offense and scoring.

In the 2nd half Nellie made some adjustments. He put in his "Big Al" to guard our "Big Al." Horford still had the advantage but we never went to it. JThe Warrior made a concentrated effort to keep the temp up while we tried to slow it down. Jackson was red hot and JJ thought he was still hot too. Too bad he had too miss 5 jumpers before he figured that out. Marvin tried to stay agressive and get to the line.

I hope to be able to go back and see this game as the turning point to when Marvin got back on track if nothing else good comes out of it.

Now looking ahead:

The energy level will be a big concern tonight. Don't roll over and lose but resting Bibby unitl the Miami "double header" may be a wise tactical decision.

A big game is needed out of Marvin tonight. Peja Stojakovick is a pathetic defender and Marvin should abuse him early and often with drives to the basket. The game plan should be attack the rim and get Tyson Chandler in foul trouble. JJ needs to be agressive vs. Mo Pete or whoever their below average SG is now.

I want to see both Marvin and JJ attacking the basket and getting at leat 8 FT's each tonight vs. the the Hornets.

1. The Hornets strength is PG.....with a hurt Bibby and Law our weakness remains at PG

2. Our srtrength is at the wing positions......their weakness is defending the wing postions.

3. This game will come down to these matchups. Who will take advantage of the other teams weakness ? Their PG, Paul, or our wings, JJ, Marvin, and Smoove ?

4. Horford will have his hands full with the super long Chandler. another reason to attakc the rim and get Chandler in foul trouble. With Chandler in foul trouble we can feast in the paint.

5. Josh Smith's energy has to match David West's energy.

Because our coach is an idiot.

All season Horford has been matched up against bigger players and has struggled to defend them. however he has done a good job when he gets switched onto smaller players.

Finally we play a team where Horford has a size advantage and gets some easy baskets and Woody pulls him.

bibby couldn't guard me right now.

LOL

Monta waltzed right past him twice for uncontested dunks while Childress just stood and watched. it wasn't like Childress got stuck on a screen he just didn't bother to even try to stay in front of Ellis. Ellis didn't even have to put a move on Childress.

On that play you speak of, it was a back pick. Nobody called it. Chillz got picked... nobody stopped Ellis from going down the lane. You must think that defense in basketball is always one on one?? Learn this chillz. Basketball is a team game. Our team defense was pitiful from start to finish of the game. Yet you're busy yapping about how much one players defense is lacking. Hello... GS shot over 54%... That's not because of Chillz. That's because our defense as a whole was ragedy.

First of all there were two plays. One of them was when Ellis set a pick on JJ which obviously wouldn't work. JJ got around easily then Ellis just went straight to the rim while childress stood there watching.

On the play you are talking about Childress didn't get hardly touched. He could have easily gotten in front of Ellis if he had actually tried as hard as he does when he is cherry picking.
