harry0569
http://www.ajc.com/sports/content/sports/h...ress_evans.html The Hawks didn't waste any time filling the void left by Josh Childress, who signed a three-year deal with a Greek team Wednesday. Journeyman Maurice Evans has agreed to terms with the Hawks on a three-year deal believed to be worth about $7.5 million, according to multiple sources familiar with the situation. RELATED STORIES Hawks fill Childress' void by signing Evans Q&A on Childress leaving the Hawks Examining the numbers on the Childress deal More Hawks coverage Evans was reportedly close to signing a three-year deal with Golden State on Wednesday, one California newspaper reported. But that was before Childress bolted for the Euro league and before the Warriors decided to match a three-year, $9 million offer sheet to their own restricted free agent swingman, Kelena Azubuike, from the Los Angeles Clippers Thursday. Evans, a six-year veteran, started 47 games last season for Orlando, the Hawks' Southeast Division rival, including all 10 playoff games against Toronto and Detroit for the division champs. He could slide into the sixth-man spot vacated when Childress opted for a deal with Greek power Olympiakos. Evans, a 6-foot-5, 220-pound swingman, averaged 9.3 points and 3.1 rebounds in 68 games last season after being traded to Orlando from the Los Angeles Lakers. Evans, 29, has a reputation as a tenacious perimeter defender and opportunistic offensive threat. He's a career 37 percent shooter from beyond the 3-point line, and averaged a career-high 9.3 points last season. Evans played the best game of his NBA career against the Hawks in April. He scored a career-high 27 points in a 121-105 win over the Hawks on April 15 at Philips Arena. Since the start of the 2001-02 season, Evans has logged time with Minnesota, Sacramento, Detroit, the Los Angeles Lakers and the Magic, his longest stint with one team being the 2006-07 season with the Lakers and the seven games he played last season before being traded. The Lakers traded Evans and Brian Cook to the Magic last November for Trevor Ariza.
harry0569
I personally like the signing especially because it only cost us 7.5 million opposed to 9-10 million that people had been discussing earlier. Hopefully, he can be a consistent three point threat and a guy who can play tough perimeter defense as has been advertised. It's a start guys
GTfan44
You beat me by 1 min. I'm downloading something. Argh lol. Great signing. Very cheap contract. Now let's FINALLY resign Smoove, and let's add 1 or 2 bigs. YES!
tmac13
Good signing. I would take Evans at 2.5 million over Chilldress at 7 million everday.

GTfan44
Man if we could just get Kwame / Randolph Morris, sign our Summer leaguers, and maybe add 1 extra big, this team will easily be better than last year's. GET IT DONE, SUND.
Chris18
Nice job by Sund.
harry0569
The biggest priority is still resigning Josh Smith. I hope Sund is busy at work talking with Smoove's agents.

vdunkndunk
This is a nice cheap replacement for Chills. I'm feeling a little better now - as a 3-point shooter and defender I actually think he's an upgrade over Chills, although he's probably not quite as good an all-around player. But really, we need that 3-point shooting and defensive ability, so I'm okay with this. Now sign Smoove and Kwame and we're back in business. I wonder if we could go ahead and trade our rights to Chills for a future first?
Plastic Man
I like how he's athletic yet still plays physical. Most players are one or the other. Good signing.

DrReality
Luv the vidoe and how he can play inside . . . . above the rim. He looks much stronger than Chill. If he comes off the bench with Speedy and Law they should be able to turn it up.

Premium Member mrhonline Posted July 25, 2008 Premium Member Report Share Posted July 25, 2008 Everyone needs to be aware now that Mo Evans is not the greatest finisher in the NBA, though. He, like Marvin, will get a good % of his shots blocked inside.
Watchman
The Hawks website doesn't say that he signed anything. They quote an AJC article stating that he "agreed to terms" with the Hawks. Just like he "agreed to terms" with Golden State? How is he officially signed?
