A Good Point Guard Is Essential!

 It's actually frightening how inadequate Acie looks compared to Mike Bibby. Without Bibby the Hawks have no rythmn. No flow on offense. This looks like a long night for the Hawks. Now you see why Hawk fans went crazy when we overlooked Chris Paul in the draft!

What are you talking about? They've done this all year even with Bibby. And lets just keep :beathorse: on the CP fiasco.

I doubt Mike Bibby would have scored and/or created 30 points had he played, and it's very doubtful that he would have prevented Al Thornton from doing the same.

Honestly, we removed our worst perimeter defender from the game and proceeded to have one of our worst defensive performances of the year. The Hawks just didn't want to win this game. I can't say anything more.

The outcome of this game was a forgone conclusion as soon as Acie Law The Fourth was announced as starter. Unless an Unquestionable Future Hall of Famer is on your active roster that night, no team in the league has a chance to win in that predicament. NONE.

Like posters have said in this thread the guard play had nothing to do with this loss.

Guard play had nothing to do with the loss? Take a look at the backcourt scoring numbers and you will think differently.

10/31 shooting for 30 points between Acie/Flip/Joe.

Say all you want about defense but the Clippers were just on fire and we sucked *ss on the offensive end as the above numbers indicate.

Edit in bold.

Our starting backcourt had 25 pts, theirs had 24.

Having an amateur at PG doesn't affect the flow of a professional game? Wow. I beg to differ. Of course he isn't going to be at primary fault for a loss or primarily praiseworthy in a win. We are talking about Acie Freaking Law The Fourth, right? He will be a wasted talent unless he gets on an awful team that can give him starter's minutes, repetitions, and experience with a back-up, veteran 1 who cares for his progression, because I don't think Bibby does, nor should he. Our team is fighting for league-wide respect as an upper-echelon team, and there is no time for Bibby to babysit a player who seems "challenged" in more ways than one, based on some of his decisions and antics on the floor. Running neck and neck with Josh for the silliest player on the team. But he's a first-rounder, and you have another guard in Claxton who should be jailed for robbery. What can you do but take your lumps with him, as much as Woody hates to.

Acie Law didn't give up 127 points by himself.

On top of that, Bibby is probably the worst perimeter defender on the team, and certainly wouldn't help have helped the defensive performance very much.

Considering that we were annihilated by Al Thornton and Zack Randolph, to boot, I seriously doubt having a different point guard would have made that much of a difference.

You might talk about our offensive efficiency-well we average 98 points per game, and scored 97. It was the defense, and it appeared as though the Hawks were making a concerted effort to prove that Al Thornton was the best player on the floor. That's the big problem, not the offensive "flow", among all vague things to cite.

How many points did we score in the first half? A whopping 41. The game was over at the half because we couldn't score. Any team can score in the 2nd half when it doesn't matter and the other team has already let up. Our 97 points don't mean diddly poo and you're a fool if you believe otherwise.

Sometimes the other team is just better and tonight was one of those nights. Defense, offense, everything. The Clippers were just making shots and the Hawks couldn't keep up.

Also, I love how people think basketball is a "Defense first" game. It's not. Basketball is about scoring points. Even the best defenses can't stop teams some nights. That's just the nature of basketball. You gotta be able to score points when you need to. It's about offense and efficiency. Football is a defensive game, hockey is a defensive game, baseball is well baseball. But basketball is unique in that its about who can score the most and more efficiently. There aren't "defensive coordinators" in basketball. Sometimes teams can be unstoppable. You just gotta live with it and accept it.

What exactly is your point? The Hawks rely on their backcourt play. It didn't matter who was guarding the Clippers tonight they were making everything.

Their backcourt wasn't making everything. Their frontcourt was. That is why Bibby wouldn't have made any difference unless you think he could have guarded Randolph or Thornton.

The Hawks scored 31 points in the 3rd quarter when the game was still in doubt. The lead got down below 10 several times. The Hawks just couldn't get any stops. The Clipps scored 35 in the 3rd.

You are just practicing revisionist history.
