Thanks to lw3, I was inspired to research ....the rest of the story...

And I found that Kevin Loughery who had guided us to the playoffs and was a winning coach to boot was traded to Chicago for what turned out to be Doc Rivers.

We all Know Doc went on to be a franchise PG and I think he went to the allstar game once or twice.

So that leads me to think about these Hawks... with No PG and Mike Woodson coaching.

So my question. Which is more important?

A Franchise PG.

or

A winning Head Coach.

Agreed. Good players can make a coach look good.

Great players can make a coach look very good.

All star type players, especially a point guard, can make

a coach look very smart & very good.

But, you must have the other pieces of the puzzle to

complete the picture. The PG, no matter how good,

can't do it all by himself.

Example from another Atlanta team. Falcons needed

a PG, (Quarterback) and look what it did for them.

Falcons were a mess. They hired a new GM, a new head

coach and staff. All this added together made the difference.

You guys make it sound like these bad coaches have nobody?

d*ck Motta had Jason Kidd, Jim Jackson, and Jamal Mashburn... 26 win team.

I can't believe PG is winning.

So you mean that you would rather have:

Jason Kidd with Lon Kruger as the coach..

Than to have

Acie Law with a young Hubie Brown as his coach?

Interesting.

Franchise PG or winning coach? That was the question. Not just any PG.

Not just a good PG. Franchise = All Star or nearly all star capable PG.

Hawks have a winning coach right now. SHOCK!! Check out his record,

not for his entire career, just last season. Yep. We have a winning coach.

So now, the question, as stated, makes choosing that franchise PG easy

over the winning coach, which we already have. Diesel, does this kind

of thinking help clear things up for you and your suprise over the vote?

Franchise PG, you can always fired a bad coach, but you can't always find a franchise PG.

Since when is someone in the top 10 victories, a bad coach? Motta was a coach of the year and won an NBA title among other things.

This question of pg or coach is an absolute no brainer. It's the coach. Everything starts from the top down. What good is the best pg with a bad coach? Not as good as a great coach with a mediocre pg. For instance, Avery Johnson was no world beater, but with a great coach, he was a steady rock to build your gameplan around. Remember, without a real coach, you have no gameplan. Without that, you're basically playing streetball(just like our Hawks) and no pg, no matter how talented, can will his team beyond an inept coach.

Yeah, you're hearing it right.

Many of our fans believe if we get the right PG in here that we'd be an elite team.

They have thrown out the CHarlotte Bobcat.. we just need a great coach like Larry Brown philosophy.

Or the Lakers...

Give us Phil Jackson and he will figure it out.

Gotta remember the question:

Winning coach. Not great coach. Not a coach who has done something with nothing.

Just simply, a winning coach. Nothing fancy. Woody won last season and we all

know that he's not really liked by anyone here on Hawksquawk. Yet, when we consider

his record for last season only, he has to qualify as a winning coach.

Franchise PG. Connitations of greatness. Potential all star. A real leader. Able to

do his thing, whether on the offensive or defensive end of the floor.

So, which to choose? A winning coach, which we already have, or a franchise PG?

YOu know Bob Weiss had Mookie in his prime?

LMAO

:thumbsdownsmileyanim: Mookie never once avg over 20pts or over 10ast in a single season.

I would not call him a "Franchise PG"

He was a good PG but not Franchise.

There are very few of those guys. Right now I would say only CP3, Deron, Billups, and Parker.

Rajon I think crossed that road this year and Rose showed he will be there in one or two more years

Over the hill guys are Kid and Nash

If you ask me I really think Franshise PG never get traded. I can't see CP3, Deron or Parker (Rajon or Rose) ever getting traded.
