I want a coach by the weekend

Enough is enough. Sund needs to get this over with and select a coach. Regardless of who is chosen, he will need to get a staff on board and gear up for FA and the draft. The longer we wait the more it looks like this outfit is unable to make good decisive basketball decisions. It also opens them to more second guessing. Make the hire and show the fan base you are confident in your decision.

The Hawks have set no timetable to name a new head coach, a team source told RealGM's Andrew Perna on Tuesday.

Atlanta fired declined to renew the contract of (hey there, Diesel) Mike Woodson last month and has interviewed a handful of candidates for the position.

Mavericks assistant Dwane Casey has long been considered the frontrunner for the job, but the Hawks are also believed to have interviewed Avery Johnson, Trail Blazers assistant Dean Demopolous, ABC analyst Mark Jackson and Larry Drew, who was an assistant under Woodson.

Sports Illustrated reported on Monday that the Hawks were looking to finalize their decision by mid-week.

The source told RealGM that the team is "in the process of doing a thorough analysis."

What more "analysis" is there to have? Is somebody writing a thesis or something? Unless they're holding out for Doc, a coach needs to be in the fold before the Draft.

Smart money gets a coach this week. But in Atlanta, we're not dealing with Smart Money. The three sets of owners have to agree with their GM. They also have to agree on a price.

Why is it smart to get a coach in place now.

Well, end of the month we have Draft and then FAcy. There's a lot of decision to be made, but more importantly, FAs want to know that there's stability and championship thinking in Atlanta. We are a 53 win team but still not over the hump. JJ prolly wants to know if we're serious about being a winner and what are we willing to do to prove that. The first step is coach. I do not pretend that JJ is not savvy. He's very much so. He waited out Phoenix as a RFA. He is in position to be paid Wade Money. However, he is smart enough to know that this is the time he should be thinking legacy. For Lebron and Wade or Kobe for that matter, he's a good Pippen to their MJ. Now, I think he would relish that role. The question is does he go to a team and be that boy wonder or would he like to return and be Batman with more gadgets and a better bat computer?

Right now, Sund is choosing the bat computer.

How beautiful would it be to see Doc Rivers walking through that door? I think it would be better than after 7 months of back and fourth with McDavid trying to figure out how to break leases so that he could move the Hawks to Las Vegas.. The ASG swooped in and walked through the door!

The only problem is that I fear that Doc is not walking through that door this time. Not unless his son decides to go to Ga Tech and his family moves out of Winter Park into SugarLoaf!!
