Hawks Invite former Seton Hall Standout SG Jeremy Hazell to Next Weeks Free Agent Mini-Camp

The Atlanta Hawks will host a free agent mini camp at Philips Arena beginning on Monday. Second round pick Keith Benson will take part in the workouts and Adam Zagoria reports that former Seton Hall shooting guard Jeremy Hazell is also planning to attend. Zagoria reports that Hazell's camp received a call from the Hawks between the 59 and 60th picks of the draft last night.

Hazell's agent reveals that Jeremy was one of the unnamed players that the Hawks worked out before the draft.

"The Atlanta Hawks called me and they want Jeremy coming to their camp on Sunday night for a week," Cohen said by email. "They desperately need a 2 guard and they really like Jeremy. He had a great workout for them earlier this week."

Hazell is a 6-foot-5 shooting guard that scored more than 2,000 career points while at Seton Hall. He missed 13 games this past season with an injured wrist that prevented him from working out at the Portsmouth Invitational. His scoring mentality could remind some of Jamal Crawford.

More Info on Jeremy Hazell..

2010-2011 Season Statistics

GP: 18

PPG: 19.8

AST: 1.6

REB: 3.5

STL: 2.4

FG%: 42.2

MPG: 35.3

He only played 18 games during his 2010-2011 season due to a wrist injury and being shot in a December 27, 2010 robbery in front of his home in New York.

2009-2010 Highlights

I think this guy can become a diamond in the rough for our team. It looks as though we have second try at a shooting guard with scoring potential that reminds us of "he who's name shall not be mentioned". Rick Sund might have a chance to redeem himself from last years trade debacle when he shipped "he who's name shall not be mentioned" and the 2011 1st Rd pick to Washington for Kirk Hinrich. What do you guys I think?

This could be a GREAT signing for us! This kid has every bit as much talent and possibly more than Jo Crawford does and I hope he finds a way to stick on our roster. If we are really desperate for a SG then I think that says for sure that Jamal won't be coming back so he's got a good shot at making it with us. I've seen him play a few times against Syracuse and he kind of reminds me of a smaller Luol Deng with his ability to get to wherever he wants and the strength to absorb contact but he's also got tremendous range. He's nowhere near the defender that Luol is and doesn't have the length either but other than that I think they play similarly.

The way he can sprint down court.....stop on dime and set his feet.....catch a pass........then get off a quick jumper with high release point is quite impressive. His perimeter shooting range is very good. I like how he seem to take a lot of clutch shots showing he has some fire.I His 3 point percenatage was only 33% on the season but he has nice form. Hopefully he can be a good catch and shoot guy.

He had to attend prep school to get his grades up before going to college. I'm fine with the age though......just pointing out why he was 25 year old senior. He has found away to score a ton of points in the mighty Big East Conference. Definately a guy you want to root for.

It would be nice to get Greg Smith and Gary McGhee into this camp too.

http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Gary-McGhee-6374/

After all, McGhee was an important cog on one of the best teams in college basketball over the past two seasons, and indeed ranks as one of the top three per-minute rebounders amongst all prospects in our latest top-100 rankings

McGhee's biggest virtue as a NBA player is pretty obvious on first glance—his chiseled 263 pound frame. He stands 6-10 in shoes, with a 7-2 wingspan, and is not afraid to mix things up in the paint, like seemingly all Jamie Dixon-coached players. While not he's not terribly fluid or explosive, he is a mobile player with solid hands and the strength to compete with virtually any NBA big man.

He looks decent, maybe like a dion glover type. Obviously don't have the good quickness/handles like JC, but he has good balance on his shot and looks good at absorbing contact.

I cant believe you compared this guy to Dion Glover. His game has no similarities to Glover by any means. I'm very disappointed in that comment. lol

Saying he reminds you of d glover is not that encouraging!

Glover was a BEAST before he got injured. That said, this kid doesn't remind me of Glover, but he does remind me of a slightly slower Jamal Crawford. His NBA 3pt range could make him an early contributor off the bench. Sund's scouts have a decent eye for cheap talent. Benson and this kid will probably make the team AND get a little PT.

being from Jersey and seeing this guy play a good amount at Seton Hall, I can tell you this guy is a NBA player. he could of came out last year but decided to go back to school..they had him going early 2nd round last year. and this year he was still a 2nd round pick in most mock drafts until he got hurt and his stock dropped but his game never fell off at all. He was a scorer but in the NBA he'll most likely be a 3 point specialist. his game is not like Glover much but like Anthony Morrow who also went undrafted. but his shot is more streaky..Morrow is pretty much automatic. he has potential to be a better defender than Morrow tho. I expect him to make the roster if Hawks are indeed in need of a scoring 2 guard

Does anyone have the list of the players the Hawks have invited to their Mini-Camp? In your opinion which of these players (if any) actually have a chance of making the Hawks final roster? Jeremy Hazell certainly sounds like a player worth checking out!

It's up on the AJC right now. Hazell wasn't mentioned.

Where ? All I found was a few names:

Camp candidates

The Hawks open a three-day minicamp on Monday at Philips Arena. About 20 free agents are expected to join Keith Benson, Atlanta's second-round draft pick.

Among the free agents invited to the camp are Qyntel Woods, Donald Sloan, Joe Alexander, Marcus Landry and Vernon Goodridge. Woods and Alexander are former NBA first-round draft picks.League rules prohibit players under contract from participating in team workouts before July 1.

Q. Woods has been out of the league since 2006. I wonder where he has been ?

Joel Alexander is an interesting prospect. He is still just 24 and was an absolute manchild at West Virginia in the Big East. He was the 8th over all pick in 2008 and was out of the league in only 2 years. Alexander put up 20 ppg and 9 rpg last season in the D-League. He has the athletic ability to be an energy guy off the bench.

Those 5 named players plus Hazell = 6 guys. Then we know Rolle and Sy will be there. I'd love to find out who the other 12 are.

I wonder how many other teams are having a camp at the exact same time as the Hawks ? After all, players can attend as many of these rookie mini camps as they want to. So it would be to your advantage to try and schedule camps around other teams.

Well, if Hazell is not attending that would be a shame since he was the one player that I thought was invited to the camp that actually had a decent chance of making the Hawks final roster! Hopefully, his name was just accidentally left out of the article.

12 guys names were left out of the article.

I wonder if MC will be able to attend the camp and give us his thoughts.

You're right. I read the article last night and didnt realize MC only mentioned a few players. Hazell may very well still be among the camp invitees. At least I hope so. What the heck is Sund thinking bringing in Qyntel Woods? :scratchhead:

Just read on Hoopshype that the Hawks are bringing in Wanamaker out of Pitt, Demetri McCamey out of Illinois. They are also interested in David Lighty out of Ohio State.

I don't know anything about McCamey but I've seen a lot of Wanamaker and he could end up being a quality backup PG in the league at some point but probably not much more than that. Lighty will probably be asked to a lot of camps so I don't know that we'll be able to get him but honestly I would much rather have Hazell make our squad if any of these invitees do make it.

The Hawks have the full list of invitees up on Hawks.com ... http://www.nba.com/hawks/roster/2011_MiniCamp.html

That roster looks like a BK wet dream. Most of the guys are 6'6"-6'9". Very little size outside of a couple of 6'11" guys. Even then the heaviest guy is like 265 (and is probably a stiff).

Thanks for posting Dol
