Tanking means you are essentially out of the basketball business for 3-5 years. Then when you finally get good your drafted star leaves because he's tired of losing and playing in front of empty seats. College basketball no longer produces ready made stars. You have to build through free agency. Unlike what Ferry believes, in Atl you have to win the press conference.

They won't need a sign and trade with us - nor do they want it. They (Houston) can make a few moves to sign Smoove to as good (or better) of a contract he would have gotten from us anyways. Houston is not in a battle with us for Smoove (because I don't think DF wants Bud to have to deal with him)....but they are in a battle with other teams.

That's not necessarily true. They'd need for Dwight to take less money and to at least move Asik. They'd probably need to move Lin or other salary but the suggestion made for a sign and trade of Smith for Asik does that.
