Admin
What do you guys think about this? Personally I love it and I think it will make games A LOT more interesting as there will be many more teams going for 2pt conversions, whether out of desire or out of necessity. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap2000000330385/article/competition-committee-discussing-43yard-extra-point The extra point has become the NFL's great afterthought. Could a substantial change be on the horizon?NFL Media's Judy Battista reports the NFL Competition Committee is in preliminary talks about placing the ball at the 25-yard line for the point-after attempt. That would make the extra point a 42-yard attempt. The ball is currently spotted at the 2-yard line, a 20-yard chip shot that was converted 99.6 percent of the time during the 2013 season. The kick was so automatic that NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell floated the idea in January of eliminating the PAT entirely. "There is no consensus yet," one member of the committee told Battista. "We could experiment in preseason, but we are not there yet." Placing the ball at the 25-yard line would certainly increase the degree of difficulty for kickers. The conversion rate of field goals between 40 and 49 yards last season was 83 percent. Those odds are still favorable, but it adds another layer of strategy for coaches who also have the option to attempt a two-point conversion. Teams that "go for two" are typically successful about 50 percent of the time. Change is probably overdue. Kickers have never been better at their jobs than they are right now. These are skilled specialists who have outgrown the model. The game must evolve with the players.
Moderators macdaddy Posted March 4, 2014 Moderators Report Share Posted March 4, 2014 Well they want to get rid of kickoffs too. Why not make the kick off be the extra point attempt. Put the kick off on the 40 and if you put it through the upright you get a point. Maybe even if you converted 2 points. Then you have the possiblity of a 9 point TD. Moderators AHF Posted March 5, 2014 Moderators Report Share Posted March 5, 2014 I like the idea of making XPs less automatic. More strategy is involved with that model than we have today which is more interesting.
ATLSmith
I'd be all for the 42 yard extra points. I think eliminating it completely is not the right move.... unless they place the ball on the 25 and have teams try for a 2 point conversion every time. That could be interesting. Buzzard
That will eliminate the 2pt conversion as well unless its the only way to get the win or put the game in overtime. I like the idea; but another route may be to eliminate the 1pt conversion and make teams go for two. Or maybe do the 25 yard extra point kick with a 2pt conversion option closer to the goal line. This change is because coaches hate losing games due to a missed extra point from the 3 yard line. My mindset is their cheap ass owners should pay for a better kicker, holder, and long snapper rofl Edited May 11, 2014 by Buzzard

They wouldn't be going for the 2pt conversion from the 25, it would be from the 3 yard line.
