Premium Member Diesel Posted June 22, 2016 Premium Member Report Share Posted June 22, 2016 Who is the worst GM in NBA History.. OK.. well maybe recent History... let's say that last 30 years. Isiah Thomas is on the List, but I don't think he tops the list. Babcock traded away Dominique. Made the Gaurantee. Traded away Deke. Billy Knight passed on CP3, Drafted Shelden, Marvin, and Childress. However, there's somebody that goes above that. Billy King. July 2013, Gerald Wallace, Kris Humphries, Marshon Brooks, Kris Joseph and 3 unprotected first-round draft, plus abilities to swap another draft pick for Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, Jason Terry, and DJ White. Could be the worst trade in franchise history. The Nets actually won less games with this new roster, Pierce left after one season, and Garnett's future is unknown, after having career lows in all statistics. Management has even acknowledged this move was a serious mistake. July 2012, Traded Jordan Farmer, Johan Petro, Anthony Morrow, Deshawn Stevenson Jordan Williams, a first round draft pick and the rights to swap a future first round draft pick for Joe JohnsonWhile Joe Johnson brought another talented player to Brooklyn his contract was considered terrible. No team in the NBA was willing to trade for him due to his overpriced contract. Ranked #4 worst NBA contract in 2014 by Bill Simmons. Yet, not only did King trade for him, but gave away a draft pick and the right to swap an addition first round draft pick for him. No other team had any interest in Johnson's toxic contract, and nonetheless would give away picks for it. July 2012, signed Gerald Wallace to $40 Million contact.Considered one of the worst contacts in the NBA. Ranked #2 worst contact of 2014 by Bill Simmons. Contract was terrible from the start. Nets had to give away two additional first round picks plus right to swap a pick just to trade him away a year later to Boston. July 2012, signed Brook Lopez to Max contractRanked 21st worst contract of 2014 by Bill Simmons. July 2012, signed Deron Williams to Max ContractRanked #5 worst contract of 2014 by Bill Simmons. March 14, 2012 Traded Shawne Williams, Mehmet Okur and a two first round pick to Portland for Gerald Wallace.Bringing in a overpriced Gerald Wallace so the Nets could have a better losing record made zero sense now and zero sense then. This transaction led to a terrible contract resigning even though the Nets could have signed Wallace to the same contract in the off-season with no trade needed. Further, the Nets traded two first round picks, one being the 6th pick in the draft, All-Star Damian Lillard. When asked why King didn't put further protections on the draft pick, he felt there wasn't any talent after top 3 spot. February 23rd, 2011 Traded Derrick Favors, Devin Harris Troy Murphy and two Future 1st round pick for Deron Williams and Brandan Wright. Not a terrible trade at the time, but controversial at best. King traded most of the building blocks for the Nets future for one player. Sadly, that player was very overrated and is a mediocre PG at best. In hindsight trade was pretty awful. August 2010 Traded Courtney Lee for Troy Murphy.Courtney Lee was a starting SG who could defend. Troy Murphy was a towel waver at best and was traded a few months later for peanuts. I think the worst part about that trade for Wallace was that one of those first rounders became Damian Lillard. However, you might think that there's somebody worse than King. Please share. Moderators AHF Posted June 22, 2016 Moderators Report Share Posted June 22, 2016 We've had worse drafting GMs than King but he is tough to beat for overall ineptness. He was also terrible in Philly where he botched a lot of picks, trades and FA deals for the Sixers.
Dejay
This is like comparing the two slowest kids in the class by seeing which one throws his snack pack on the wall the fastest. Both are hysterically bad and shouldn't ever be put in charge on an NBA roster again... Edited June 22, 2016 by Dejay
romebee
In hindsight, they won that Joe Johnson trade. We essentially traded Joe Johnson for Deshawn Stevenson and Mike Muscala

Don't think I would include Ferry in that mix if for no other reason than addition by subtraction. Joe and Josh went bye bye in two very different ways but both very on purpose by Ferry. How many millions saved for the Hawks on two players that just can't get you there.

Hawks beat the Nets straight up in the playoffs in the 2015 playoffs but they didn't get the high lottery pick fans thought they would get. Instead, they got Adriean Payne. Now, the Nets/Celtics trade, Nets are looking like winners so far. James Young is looking like a bust. They used their pick this year on a SF when they already got Crowder on a GREAT contract. Nets hired Atkinson and Marks so they should be way improved compared to this past season so Boston may not get anymore lottery picks from Brooklyn next year or 2018.
Thomas
Even without bringing back talent directly from the Joe trade it helped us create a much more balanced team that has excelled more than any other version of an Atlanta Hawk's roster. That trade was a huge win for us.
