RandomFan
Now that "he" is no longer a Hawk, let's change gears and focus on something that isn't a kick in the teeth. How about we take a look at what we'll look like heading into the 2017 offseason, and how much cap space we might have. Broken down by position group and contract status in 2017. Point Guards: Schröder - Restricted Free Agent - he'll be due a sizeable raise over $2,708,582, with full Bird rights. Patterson - RFA - small cap hold, can be brought back for cheap most likely, full Bird rights Possible 2016 PG addition - I assume we'll add one, no idea his 2017 contract status at this point. Wings: Bazemore - under contract for $16,910,112 Korver - UFA - made $5,239,437 in 2016. Full Bird rights Thabo - UFA - made $3,850,000 in 2016. Full Bird rights Hardaway - RFA - made $2,281,605 in 2016. Full Bird rights Prince - under contract, year 2 of rookie contract around $2m Bembry - under contract, year 2 of rookie contract around $1.5m Cordinier - if brought over, will be under contract year 1 of rookie minimum around $600k Bigs: Howard - under contract for $23,500,000 Millsap - player option (UFA) - Splitter - UFA - made $8,550,000 in 2016. Full Bird rights Tavares - on non-guaranteed contract for $1,014,746 Muscala - UFA - made $1,015,696 in 2016. Full Bird rights. Scott - UFA - made $3,333,334 in 2016. Full Bird rights. I've bolded the players that will be under contract already for the 2017 season. It ain't a lot, is it? At least we have full Bird rights on every single player currently on the roster that could become a free agent in 2017. Maybe someone with a little more cap knowledge can list everyone's cap holds for 2017 and do a real estimation of how much cap room we could clear. GameTime
2017 Free Agency List: 1. Stephen Curry Unrestricted / Point Guard / 6-3 / Team: Golden State The back-to-back MVP hits free agency in 2017 and he's a mortal lock to get a maximum contract. Russell Westbrook Unrestricted / Point Guard / 6-3 / Team: Oklahoma City One of the most athletic and confident point guards we've ever seen. Pretty sure he already signed a 1 year contract overseas. Plus we already have 6 wings under contract this year, 7 if you include Patterson who can bounce between wing and point guard. It's best he waits until next year when we might lose both Korver and Thabo, perhaps Hardaway too. We already have two rookies to break in on the wing this year in Prince and Bembry.
Premium Member sturt Posted July 3, 2016 Premium Member Report Share Posted July 3, 2016 Actually, Random, I'm not sure of that on Cordinier. As I understood it, he was intending to come over and play with the team that had promised to draft him, then that fell through, and of course we drafted him.... then, at the press conference I believe he indicated he intended to play for a team in France's highest division.... as-in, it wasn't yet known that that would be the case, but it was his intention. Premium Member sturt Posted July 3, 2016 Premium Member Report Share Posted July 3, 2016 Right. But too, if you recall, we traded the #54 pick because Wilcox anticipated we would have trouble allotting a roster slot to him.... things have changed drastically, of course. I could easily imagine a situation where we trade Korver or trade Hardaway, and reconsider Cordinier's status, couldn't you?
RandomFan
Not really. Korver will probably start again this year. And Hardaway is probably Korvers future replacement.
Premium Member sturt Posted July 3, 2016 Premium Member Report Share Posted July 3, 2016 I'll give you this--it doesn't sound like they think he's ready for prime time. Based on the premise that another team did think he was ready, though, suggests it's a borderline call, and that with our sudden turbulence, there's reason to think Wilcox could reconsider.
