I personally think Young, Huerter and Spellman are raw

None of them are polished.

Young is uber talented and an extremely gifted PG but lacks the measurements and tools needed to translate instantly.

Kevin Huerter is talented like Klay but is even less polished than Klay was out of Washington State.

Spellman is like Green, polished and skilled but needs to work on his conditioning to an extreme degree.

All three are backups right now. None of them are as good as Dennis, Baze or Dedmon. All of them will take some time to develop. I would say due to their talent especially Young and Huerter, it will more like John Collins than Tyler Dorsey. They will add depth and get minutes.

You are absolutely right.

I watch a lot of college basketball and all of our picks are unpolished. However, what the Hawks are banking on is the ability to develop our young team. The Hawks made a big investment in the training facility which should help our guys get stronger and hopefully improve their defensive ability.  I can't overstate how bad Trae Young's defensive skills are and our defensive minded coach will earn his paycheck.

Travis drafted 3 guys that can shoot well, but our coaching staff has to improve their defensive presence if they hope to logged valuable minutes.

Spellman might be better than I thought early on but the other two will take some time but once they get it. We might be looking a Dirty South edition of the Splash brothers

They are all raw as far as professionals go, but compared to other prospects they are amongst the most polished skill wise. FWIW, Spellman set a Hawks record in some sort of (IIRC) conditioning drill so I don’t think it’ll be a problem. With his competitive drive and a team of pros behind him, I think he drops down to about 240-245 and gains a slight boost in quickness and stamina. The kid has all the makings of a 2nd round steal and Schlenk has been really good late in the draft.

Other than the fact that he was a first round pick.  :wink3:

Trae maybe slightly less further along than I felt but maybe even more talented. His defense is poor but he flashes good defensive instincts. He also flashes LeMeloism of not being engaged.

Spellman is polished but raw. Conditioning is everything for him
