I've recently started using Andre 3000 quotes for all my post titles.   There, I said it.

Anyway, this post is one that I looked at last night and had a question for the Squawk.

Let's say last night Quin gave us a taste of what he feels should be the core lineup for next year...  I mean:

Trae DJ, Hunter, JC, OO.

even replacing DJ with BB in game 5 reaped good benefits.

My question.. if that's the case, who can we get for CC?

Trae and DJ going to have to learn to play off the ball and trust in teammates..we needs some upgrades if we can get them..still need a backup point guard and upgrade center position and JC needs to be moved also..hopefully OO can work on outside shooting..I'm okay with hunter but if we can find another to replace I'm down for it..hopefully alot of moves coming..need size and grit..team is to soft..most teams got better than us..maybe this year we get better..playoff is what prepare yourself for..half court offense and defense..running don't work in playoffs...🦅

I'm not so quick to say what we "need" because i haven't seen what Quin is going to employ.   He's still coaching what Nate left behind with Nate's people.   He has already hired Mike Brey.  Mike Brey is a motion specialist.  That being the case, our offense will be totally different.

Consider the following play..

That doesn't look like anything we have run under Nate or LP.   We talk about Trae playing off ball.   So the question that I would ask is what player that we have right now won't fit in a motion system.   I would suggest Clint.   Mainly because Clint can't hit from outside of the low post.

Jonathan Isaac can't get and stay on the floor. He's spending a other offseason rehabbing after another surgery in March. Big pass.

That would be what would make him available.   He had a torn abductor... nothing with the leg.   I could live with the risk.  He's a big who is strongly defensive.  He has a motor and he can hit the shot even to the three point shot.

He's a risk you take if you're the 2018 or 2019 Hawks. Not now. Not unless he'd be released (highly suspected), and he'd be willing to take a very low salary, heavily incentivized contract (not likely).

I don't agree.

We're not looking for a starter.   He's a project and would be on the last year of his contract.  Just being in the league playing for his next contract would be incentive.  But we're not talking about a player who had issues playing or in the lockerroom.  We're talking about a guy who was injured.  6'11" 230lbs.. athletic build and can shoot from three and bang down low.. and was a shot blocker.

He suffered mainly the same injury that Klay did...  Would you feel the same way about Klay coming off injury??  And this guy is not old, he's 24.

Q is not going to change the players...there stuck..i hope he could but i dont see it..time to shake things up some..we need players with good IQ and move that can shoot

While I think Ressler is happy with how we turned out this season.   All things considered.   I think that Ressler is still a cheapie.  He's not going to keep all of those high salaries no matter what he says.  Part of the trade for Isaacs is with an eye towards saving money.

Not sure you thought this one all the way through, Dies.

I say that as someone who also had latched on to the idea of this recently, but also obviously as someone who ended up concluding what I said above.

He's a project.

Yes.

And in your scenario here, you're replacing a definite positive starting-level asset ... with... a project.

That's too much risk given where we're at.

Absolutely would have made some sense at an earlier developmental stage of the roster.

Does not now. Or, to be more precise, does not unless you'd be able to get him as a newly-released UFA and on a very team-friendly contract.

 Yeah...

That's the thing.   I have come to the conclusion that CC is probably gone.  I like CC.  I believe he is the best PNR roller in the game.   He and Trae has magnificent chemistry.   However, his defense hurt us against Boston and OO is coming into his own.

So the replacement of CC is not by anybody coming in but by OO stepping up.   I think OO has great potential and he actually would fit well with JC (who we may not be able to move for anything of worth).

I know there are some that would say....  DJ + CC for KAT...

I don't like KAT that much and I think there's a place for DJ here.

I know there are some that would say.... Collins and CC for Ayton and Shamet.

I just don't see the want to in Ayton.   I can easily see him walking away from basketball before his next contract.  Plus if JC can give us what he gave us these last two games ... based on spacing and role.. then sheez, he's better than anything we can trade for.

I would also consider Clint for Delon and Gafford.  And I can see this going down easily if Washington moves up in the draft and is able to pick Scoot.

its a shame when you got teams like the suns that have booker, cp, ayton and durant and we just struggle to find anything deal that would obviously make us better but also be a realistic thing.  That is not a huge market.  They did draft Ayton and booker though.  Just alwasy seems like the best players for Trae arent going to be available - because there just arent that many of them

The future is bright my friend...

Trae, AJ, Bey, JJ, OO....

There are 2 maybe 3 allstars there.  IN the future.

The question right now is how do we deal with our players now...

CC, JC, Hunter, Bogi and DJ...

DO you let them ride out with us.  Do you take a swing at a big time star like JB?  IDK..  Landry will have his hands full.
