Guys let's be real. We are the Atlanta Hawks. No one wants to play for us we are the most disrespected team in the NBA. We are suffering for the bad decisions and images that were made years ago. No one expects much from us so we really have nothing to lose. We need to offer Curry a max contract or anyone else a max contract if it will get them here (not guys like Steven Hunter). We can have all the money in the world but until we prove we can have a winning season or two or three even if it is .500 ball we will never attract anyone. We are the ugly girl at the prom. We need to get whatever we can get screw the high road that Billy Knight is taking. That will get us the samething it got us last year-NOTHING. I am tired of seeing other teams improve through free ageny while we sit pat and refuse to overpay or pay anyone. What the hell is it to have the money if you are not going to spend it. Hell 90 percent of our team are on rookie contracts. Hell Danny Ferry has seemingly accomplished more in just under a month on the job. BEGGARS CAN'T BE CHOOSERS!!!

Max contract, hell he is barely a starter and he is no where near the defensive player that Tree Rollins was.

Besides that he is not coming to Atlanta. He couldn't score on me much less anybody else. He is another Theo Ratliff and we know how that worked out. The Hawks will have to give a max deal to any player and I'd say 99% of the time the player will sign somewhere else.

I'd say Curry is the only chanve the Hawks have. I will be totally surprised if the Hawks get JJ. I would be happy but shocked.

on a bad 5 year run into teams on a decade long bad run. You look around the league and consistantly there are good free agents signing deals with teams with a far worse losing pedigree than we've had.

In the last 27 years the Hawks have only had NINE seasons where we've posted a sub .500 record with five of those nine coming in the last five seasons. In that 27 years span we've posted nine seasons of a .600 or better seasons. Go take a look around the league and tell me how mean teams, in the last 27 years, can say they've done better?

The only people that think the Hawks have been a bad, losing franchise are the people that weren't interested even when we were winning, which has been often. People who follow the team and know the NBA, know different. The players especailly know that we're a winning franchise that's on a bad run. But they also know we're taking big steps to change that. The players that wouldn't want to be a part of that are the ones that don't have the guts, nuts or game to help turn a loser into a winner and I don't care if they go elsewhere anyway.

did you realize that as you were writing that that you might end up making someone smile with the knowledge? make a person say wow, it really isnt as bad as even I made it out to be, being a Hawks fan...we do have some things to be happy and proud of...

thanks man.

We don't need to go maxing out heart patients (who were never really that good in the first place)... or overpaying for a guy who may never turn the corner... Out of desperation.

This is a journey that may take several humps up the hill. Especially if we keep drafting Sfs.

The guys who don't want to play for Atlanta are the guys who afraid of taking the responsibility of leadership. Kenyon, Dampier etc. can't be a star player alone. They are both role players with huge contrats right now. The truth is, we don't need them. We need a player who wants to play and get the leadership in this young and talented team. So, I don't see them as lost players.

Let's take a look at this year's free agency and the money that some players had:

Redd and Ray Allen got max, Hughes and Ilgauskas 5 year 60 million, Simmons 5 year 47 million, Mobley 5 year 42 million, Gadzuric 6 year 36 million, Antonio Daniels 5 year 30 million, Jerome James 5 year 29 million, Marshall 4 year 25 million.

Get Ray, Hughes and Daniels out of that list; who deserves those millions? Personally, they are all overpaid but what you can do? Because of this year's market, they got those millions. So if we try to sign with a high-quality FA, we need to pay high-quality money again because of this year's market. Plus, don't forget that Hawks are looking for a PG and C, the positions which good players are found rarely.

So, we will pay max to JJ, who will lead this team.

We will pay max to Daly, who gives 12+10+3 every night. (If Philly matches our max offer, that shows we don't have to give max just to bring them to Atlanta like you said, we offer max because of this year's FA market.)

Come on, we don't have a LeBron James in our roster. Ferry came to a team that has a ready superstar to build the team around. He needed complementary players next to his superstar, we need two players who will have to play at least 30 minutes in most important positions! That is something different.

What player have you been watching?

He has career averages of 7/6.6/1.7, with career bests (on a season - different seasons) of 8 points, 7.6 boards, and 2.3 blocks.

And now he's guaranteed to get us 12/10/3? He's never averaged 9 ppg, much less 12. He's never averaged 8 boards, much less 10. And he's going to double his blocks per game from last year?

I don't think so. He got maybe 10 double doubles all of last season, why would he suddenly average a double double? A defensive specialist's stats don't increase when going to a worse team, generally speaking. Except maybe for blocks

It wasn't my point, but if we are talking about Daly's stats, we may consider his minutes Lascar. These are the total 21 games which he played more than 30 minutes. We are offering him max to play more than 30 minutes I hope.

35min. 13+14+6

33min. 10+11+4

37min. 5+15+3

35min. 24+16+4

32min. 16+11+3

32min. 5+11+0

36min. 9+8+3

30min. 16+7+1

31min. 10+7+3

33min. 14+15+0

34min. 15+5+0

35min. 21+5+2

38min. 7+11+3

35min. 16+17+1

36min. 11+7+3

33min. 14+7+1

30min. 11+10+3

32min. 16+16+5

38min. 18+15+2

35min. 10+7+4

31min. 7+10+1

AVERAGES: 33,8 min. 12,76PTS. 10,57REB. 2,47BLK.

wow! I just made it up while I was saying 12+10+3 cool.gif

And, It is not my point. My point is, current market situation forces us to pay max. Not because of we are the ugly girl at the prom.

Reality is that we took that route for years, getting free agents that were over the hill or with bad reputations. That is what got us here. Billy is trying to do it the right way, but it will be painfull for a few years - unless you focus on how our young guys develop. I think THAT is going to be fun to watch - but we'll lose a lot of games for a while. Just be patient.
