  1. I think this post illustrates that the players have more leverage than people realize. But there will be basketball at some point--the NBA won't die. Compared to the last CBA, the player's offer is still a great deal for the owners.
  2. I think the bigger loser would be Marvin. Believe or not, Joe can get a comparable contract if this one gets voided. Marvin probably would not. Also because of Joe's playing style and durability he has more years to recoup money.
  3. I chose to get my money back even though it's only 1% interest. The bad part is that it is paid monthly as opposed to one lump sum. Also, I heard stories about how Thrashers season tickets holders were not paid in a timely manner.
  4. With only 7 players under contract for next season and 6 for the following season, I'd be surprise if he does not make the team.
  5. Agreed. From a ticket sale perspective, you are trading an exciting finisher/shotblocker (Smith) and a fan favorite (Zaza) for three pretty boring players. The guys from Houston could add something, but there is definitely not a lot of excitement to their games. I definitely don't see Atlanta making this trade.
  6. For free agents that don't have contracts for next year, it's a great move. For Williams, it's also a great move. Even if he gets hurt, the Nets have to resign him--they gave up so much to get him. I think if you get a few more all-star caliber players moving overseas, this lockout will quickly end. As for Zaza, I'd like to see him dominate overseas and build-up some confidence.
  7. I don't think anything will prevent franchises from giving out bad contracts. The only thing I'd add is one year of an arbitration decided CBA. If owners and players cannot reach an agreement, then an arbitrator would decide the terms for one year. It would mean more basketball and a responsible third party providing input.
  8. That's a big if. How do we do this?
  9. Yeah, Josh finally picked up his defensive energy. That was really the key.
  10. It seams that PCT means Percentage, but it goes over 100, so I am not sure what to make of that column.
  11. Open practice starts at 1:30: http://www.nba.com/hawks/Countdown_2010.html
  12. So what is going to happen at this year's Season Ticket Holder Tip-Off Event? It does not seem like an added value to season ticket holders. This Q&A is open to everyone and the Open Practice is open to everyone.
  13. I wouldn't call it "old school." Most high schools and colleges still have their players conditioned this way.
  14. Part of this is the fact that Yao would never switch onto a point guard in a pick-n-roll situation (we can't say the same with our center), so he is always around the basket and defending the paint. The other part is that Dwight can't go over him. He has to go around him with real post moves.
  15. This is why the Hawks are so difficult to predict. The Bucks team we played in the playoffs was a bad team. Due to injuries, they were less talented than pretty much every team in the league. So much of how the Hawks do is dependent on where their minds and hearts are at.

    To me....

It has to be. Boston goes to the NBA finals and doesn't even appear on the list.

    Trade?

I'll be the first of many NOs.
  18. Agreed. It would be a mistake to sign and trade Childress. Lets keep extending the QO and we will get him eventually OR Childress might take the contract that Sund offered him originally.
  19. To be honest. Drew's offense almost has to be better than what we have now. If it does not work, the guy will ball with just default to what we normally do: isolation.
  20. I think Heywood for the MLE would be the best we could do.
  21. Agreed, a hard cap is not possible unless we loss a season due to strike/lockout. Aside from that, going over the cap does create a championship team...acquiring good players (who stay healthy) does. The Lakers have been successful because they trading nothing go get Kobe and then traded nothing to get Gasol. The Pistons were successful because they traded nothing to get Rasheed. The Spurs were successful because they won the Duncan lottery and drafted well (Parker and Ginobli).
  22. And the team appears to have gotten worse since his arrival.
  23. To be honest, I am not sure this trade improves our team. It does give Orlando a freakishly athletic backcourt with 2 slam dunk champions; not to mention numbers 1 and two in blocked shots. I have to believe that they would do this deal.
  24. If this is the case, why won't he just trade his picks. Why draft someone that you are not going to use nor even develop? What good is a young player with no experience nor any confidence?
