  1. i've liked him, since he's the only real pro player that i know of that also played for my alma mater, murray state university. that and the fact that his name is popeye--i mean, c'mon, POPEYE! how could you not root for a guy with that name?!
  2. Quote: If the ASG wins the appeal with the Court of Appeals (where it is now), Belkin can appeal it to the Maryland Supreme Court which has discretion whether to take the case or turn it down. The ASG has the same option if Belkin wins with the Court of Appeals. hasn't the maryland supreme court already declined to hear the case? if so, would that mean that they won't take the case at all and let a lower court have the final say (with a quicker resolution given the current state of things), or would they hold out and eventually take the case only after all other possible means have been attempted and failed (wasting countless time and money, and dragging this on for years more)? Quote: It cannot survive under the circumstances and it will be the laughing stock of the league . ...oops, too late.
  3. Quote: Unless we plan on moving Speedy or Lue then AJ is a dumb move. i thought of that as well. i wouldn't mind having him here too much, but it is redundent unless speedy or lue goes. lue probably, as i think there would be more interest in him from other teams. i don't see how if aj is unhappy about being little used where he is now, how he would benifit from playing here with our current pgs. speaking of lue, and his defensive deficiencies (as another poster pointed out). what's up with that? i know he can play d if he really wanted to. i remember him completely locking down iverson in the lakers/sixers finals. correct me if i'm wrong, but my shaky memory seems to remember a.i. won the sixers a game or two, then once tlue's number got called, he stuck to him like glue, and stopped iverson cold, then the lakers went on and won out. i remember a whole big article devoted to him in the paper at the time. in practices, he would try to completely mimic a.i., up to and including wearing the single arm sleeve.
  4. those senerios sound great, so that is precisely why isiah wouldn't be doing them. secondly, levinson wouldn't come out and say we were doing all those things before they all get completed, and before isiah is offically hired. lastly, i probably wouldn't even ever hear of any of those transactions happening, because i would pass out upon hearing of the hiring of isiah as our gm, and then die from drowning in my own vomit. we need isiah to stay in ny as he is the ONLY gm that can guarantee that bk isn't the worst in the league. you always need at least one other gm around you can take advantage of, and right now, it's isiah. if jordan takes more gm control with the bobcats, then we may be able to live without isiah in the league, but until then, we need a "keep zeke" campaign in the big apple.
  5. neither of those coachs hold ANY interest to me, personally. cowher's success came with great (particularly power) running game and a qb with a low turnover rate. atl has a running game, but nothing like the bus. they also just barely made it into the playoffs last year by the skin on their teeth, so about as much good luck got them in as bad luck kept the falcons out. besides, i believe cowher plans on taking a year off before coaching again with another team. jimmy johnson's fanny is much too comfortable in the booth, now. he may come back, a'la vermeil or gibbs, but you see how well that worked. neither of those guys are bad coachs, but i don't think they'd be any improvement with vick and company. i can't honestly say that i think petrino will work out in the nfl (it will be a very difficult transition), but i like that blank and mckay are going out on a limb and trying for a creative unknown. there aren't really any other former nfl head coaches i can think of that i would want, and until belichek's current crop of assistants mature for a couple years, then any other assistant coaches for hire are just as likely to succeed as a good college head coach.
  6. yep, i live here in louisville, and they just announced it on the local news. u of l fans have a love/hate with him. love him for what he's been able to do here, great and creative offensive mind, who is able to shift strategies based on the strengths of available players. u of l lost their top rb, pre-season heisman hopeful michael bush, for the season in the first game, plus their star qb for part of the season, and still finished with only one loss and a bcs bowl win. on the flip side, he's constantly been seeking other jobs behind the scenes, getting busted for doing it, then apologizing and saying he wants to stay in louisville. i'm not surprised he's leaving, but i am a little surprised at the timing. his son is the no. 1 qb in one of this city and state's top ranked football high schools (private, catholic school) and is going into his senior year, i believe. i thought he'd stick around one more year til his son graduated. must strike while the iron's hot, i suppose. if the players will listen to a coach from the college ranks, then the falcon's offense should take off next season. i hope his work will translate well in the pros.
  7. wow, tubby smith, huh? that would be interesting. i'm a uk fan, but i haven't heard anything about him leaving. i wouldn't be surprised if he did leave, though. sooner or later he's going to reach the breaking point of thousands of obnoxious fans (undeservidely)calling for his head after every loss. adelman/offensive action fans probably wouldn't care for this pick, though. speaking of uk/atl...randolph morris has finally been playing more like everyone has expected him to for the past few years. it'll take a good 3 years for him to make any impact in the nba, still. jody meeks from norcross has been fun to watch playing in blue. the freshman really has a nose for the basket. uk will be really good in a year or two, assuming meeks, stephenson, and jasper (freshman) all stick around. they weren't the most highly sought after players, so it could happen. sorry to drift off subject so much....
  8. Quote: So what is the point to make a 2 years contract with Batista if he wont be playing? I still think that is something else. i think tony delk was saying something to himself very similar to this...

    NBA Draft 2007

pf/c if the pick is top 3, pg if the pick after 10. this draft seems fairly heavy in bigs, but if ten other teams get a better big ahead of you, then get the best point in the draft that should still be around after 10.
  10. you know, doug johnson looked pretty good the first year vick missed time with an injury, going 4-1. yeah, he was great, so great that the following year the falcons were like 1-11 without vick. one half does not make a career. vick's not the greatest qb, but that doesn't mean that schaub is better. who do you think would be picked up first in a draft tomorrow? unless you're the texans, i think vick would be picked before schaub. i think it comes down to coaching as much as anything. i'm surpised people aren't b!tching as much about the falcons getting vick instead of ladanian thomlinson and philip rivers like they have about the hawks getting marvin instead of chris paul.
  11. this one's pretty good, too. and it's not from 3 years ago, diesel.
  12. Quote: But Marvin is too young to give up for a guy in Andre whose already 30. andre will still be playing at a top level for the remaining 3 years of his contract. he's 30, not 38. i was really really hoping that we could've gotten miller from denver back when we were shopping al harrington and the nuggets were biting. however, we didn't get him then, so i seriously doubt we'll get him now. i honestly believe we have absolutely zero chance of trading for, or signing, any big time player until the final court ruling is in the books. since the jj thing blew everything up, who have we gotten? speedy, lo wright, and other cast offs. it's fine to try and find diamonds in the rough, but you can't build a whole team with them. if you're lucky, MAYBE 1 out of 4 or 5 rejects could turn around and be a major contributer to your team (like zaza). everyone misses something every now and then (see diaw), but the majority of the time, there is a reason a player is given his walking papers or not offered much from his team (lo wright). as much as i want andre miller here, there is no way it will happen. it makes perfect sense to get him, and it will only cost us a little more in salary (but still under the cap), but unfortunately, that is exactly why we won't get him--common sense and cash.
  13. Quote: Besides We'd just end up with the Atlanta Supersonics within 2 years think again. the sonics new owners are from oklahoma city. they are waiting for the season to end and the hornets to return to new orleans for good before they relocate the sonics to their hometown (though they publicly haven't admitted as much). they've wetted the locals' appitite, and soon they'll get to feed the hungry, too (and make some $$). think it was any coincidence the nba moved the hornets to okc after katrina, then the sonics get sold to a group from there? they were testing the market, man.
  14. man, f* belkin. no, i don't know exactly everything that has been going on with the owners (no one but themselves and their lawyers do), but it seems that he has been doing some serious underhanded moves that hold back the team. there are serious limitations to what the spirit can do while dealing with the dark lord, and what's the point in firing the gm and coach until everything is resolved? no one will want to come in to this situation under the current uncertainty. anyone who would, wouldn't be enough of an improvement, i can tell you that. granted, once the absolute final court ruling is given out, i wouldn't mind too much if the bk and woody are shown the door (especially woody), but until that happens, then what's the point? change for change's sake? the more discontinuty you have among the organization, the harder it is on players and the team. personally, i feel that either of them could likely be running the team pretty cheap, they needed each other to buy the teams in the first place.
  15. i don't know how he could get missed. judging from some various mocks i've see, he could be available around the time our indy pick comes up (15ish?). he's at the top of my wish list for the hawks to draft and groom to take over from speedy in a couple years. unless we get a high pick (in the top 5) and can get a serious, proven big, then i hope we get steele as our point for the future. he's def one of the best, if not the best all around, points in the upcoming draft.
  16. that'd be a good trade for us, but the lakers would never do it. phil loves lue, but probably not that much. i like farmar a lot. did you see this somewhere, or are you just pulling it out of the air?
  17. how did i miss this post? i'd lean towards alba, but i wouldn't kick either out of the bed for eatin' crackers. btw, linda carter was the first woman i ever fell in love with.
  18. these are too damn funny. virgin ears should avoid the barney clip. hey ya charlie brown gangsta barney enjoy.
  19. i personally would like to see a.i. in red and yellow, though i don't think there is anyway it will happen. my guess is something like ai to indy for stephen jax and tinsley. they are ready to shake up their team as bad as the sixers are.
  20. i'm pretty sure cenk akyol is a point guard. wonder if he'll ever make over the pond.
  21. it's amazing the man simultaniously holds the record for the most wins and the most losses for an nba coach.
  22. and i forgot to mention...with jordan now in the mix, they may pass on oden to reach for the next kwame brown!
  23. if rob johnson continues down "the donald sterling path" with the bobcats, then we won't have to worry about seeing that front line for too long.
