There's no doubt in my mind Marvin Williams will continue to improve his game, and therefore have more trade value next year. Let's be honest here EazyRoc... Honest... Based on what you just said, I have this question. Do you think Marvin has more value now than when he was first drafted? Of course not. That has little to do with anything, though. The point is, Marvin Williams will be better next year and therefore we could either resign him or trade him for more than what we would get for him right now. I'm starting to feel like a broken record..

Quote: are the frontrunners to lang Maggs: http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_ylt=Ar6k...=yhoo&type=lgns PG - Tony Parker SG - Manu Ginobili SF - Corey Magette PF - Tim Duncan C - Oberto Wow, that's a pretty tough line up right there. That's also a team that'll be at the FT line a lot. Can the Spurs make one more run at the Finals ?
  3. Quote: Quote: Quote: Haha, regardless of any ire you have for my post, what you said in that context, which I referenced, was at best a poor choice of words. I will leave it at that. I too think Marvin will improve next year, but I doubt it will be enough to want to throw close to 10 million or so at him. Marvin brings a lot of good to the table, but if he doesnt extend his range, or make up for his lack of range by doing other things much better (such as rebounding, steals, defense), then he needs to go for a clear upgrade. Professor Truth, now that has a nice ring to it...In fact, I kinda like it. Jesting aside, I basically agree with you on several points. With the $$$ that will likely be tied up in Smoove and/or Chillz/filler for bench, there will be some tough decisions to make as Joe and others become eligible for extensions and their money. This summer will surely make for a pivotal and franchise-shaping offseason. Let's hope that Marvin asserts himself enough to either make him our clear choice as the future of the SF, or force us to get great value in return for him. Professor Truth it is, then. Hopefully we will be a strong enough team to where the ASG will not hesitate to invest more into the club (going over the luxury tax) and Joe won't want to go anywhere else.

  5. Quote: Baron Davis has opted out of his contract. And if they offered Arenas 100 million and they plan to resign Ellis as the pg of the future, than it might be worth it to go after Davis. We could offer Golden State Marvin and Bibby as a sign and trade. Bibby's 14 million expiring could be pretty enticing after offering Arenas the world. Davis is basically the pg of our dreams, he can score, distribute and is big enough and quick enough to guard any pg. Davis JJ Childress Smoove Horford We would basically be upgrading our team without taking on additional salary. I would definitely go after Baron Davis. He's been healthy ever since he lost weight, and he can create for everyone including himself. He's a better shooter than Mike Bibby, and will also help fill seats. Law can take his time and be the backup PG while learning under one of the league's best PGs. You could also play small with Law at the PG, BD at the 2, and JJ at the 3 during games.
  6. Quote: Whoa, the WHOLE goal of a trade is to get back something of value EazyRoc...what a revolutionary idea! I dont believe Marvin is about to be re-signed next year based on what he has shown us, we need a SF who can stretch the floor, so let's go out and find someone who will indeed give us an upgrade at that position. SF is one of the easiest positions to fill--it is Sund's job to find the right one for our team. Hey smartass, most of these trades I've seen have trading Marvin for trash. Marvin may not be resigned, but he doesn't cost a lot and is a big part of our team. There has been very few trade proposals that actually upgrade our team, forget the position. I think even if we were to trade Marvin and Bibby, who has been included in a lot of Marvin trades, then it would be better to wait until January or closer to the trade deadline. I definitely think Marvin and Bibby will play better next year, and increase their value. Trading for some 30 year old spot up shooter or another career role player won't do much to improve our team from last year, so why change things for the sake of changing things ?
  7. Quote: Quote: Anyone ever think that maybe Josh Smith likes playing in his home town, and the only way he goes somewhere else is if the hawks totally low ball him or he gets traded. That's a possibility. But people make decisions everyday, because of money, especially money you can get in the short-term. Smith is on the verge of making 8 - 10 million more dollars next season, than he did last season . . if he re-signs with us. But if Philly frontloads a deal, he could make 14 - 17 million more next season, than he did last season. People see the millions, and don't think that there is much difference between 11 million and 14 million . . . da hell it ain't! JJ left a pretty good playoff team, partially because of the 20 million we paid him upfront. Yeah, he may have wanted to be "the man", and maybe wanted to play closer to home. But don't think for one second that possibly seeing his salary increase from 3 to 20 million, didn't play a major role in his decision to come to ATL. That's like working in some company in ATL making 30,000 a year, and them wanting to promote you to a position that will have you make $120,000 next year. You love ATL, and love the raise you're about to get. But then a company in Philly says that they'll pay you $200,000 next year to work for them. If you love ATL, but also like the role and the substantial pay raise you'll have with the company in Philly, which job are you going to choose? I'd probably stay in Atlanta myself.
  8. Quote: Quote: Marvin will not be traded as long as Mike Gearon Jr. is a owner of the team. Mike Jr and Dominique or obsessed with Marvin's talent. Go to any old ajc podcasts and articles and listen to them talk about Marvin. He will be a keeper under the current ownership. Are you sure that Gearon wasn't drinking the BK Juice? BK's gone son. Now, it's about what can you do and not about potential. Potential has had 3 years with starters minutes and potential haven't done much. With us being stared at by Philly and them calling our owners bitc-... Then I think it's time that we start to think of ways to cut salary and improve the product. Trading Marvin wouldn't necessarily do that, either. We'd be crazy to give up on Marvin when he has made progression year in, year out. He's an underrated defender, and someone I believe can be a 2nd or 3rd option on offense. Unless we are getting something else of value, why trade him ?
  9. Quote: I honestly think Chris Paul is the best player in the game in terms of overall impact. Kobe is the best scorer, but I'll take Paul pretty easily. They both make everyone around them significantly better.
  10. Quote: Quote: Damn, it's close. Does anyone have any explanations to why they chose whatever position they chose? I personally think he's a PF since he's not strong enough down low to go head to head with most of the centers in the league. A lot of centers are pretty scrawny. Biedrins and Dalembert come to mind. Regardless, its not like Solo can guard either position straight up at this point. He's probably best used standing near the hoop on both ends, either going for oboards and oops or trying to swat a shot. Sounds more like a C to me. That's pretty much the way I see it, too.
  11. Quote: Regardless of who is the best, it is great experience to play with guys at this level. One more step in his maturity towards being an allstar. He should learn a lot from these guys. Definitely.
  12. Quote: Quote: Quote: C- Al Jefferson PF- Al Horford SF- Kevin Durant SG- Kevin Martin PG- Derrick Rose Barring Horford, that looks like a future U.S. Olympic team right there. What r u talking about? Horford is the best player on that list, get a life. Don't get offfended. As big as a Horford fan I am, he's not the best on that list. He's also not from the United States and has stated in an interview about how he would play for the Dominican Republic.

    Make the run.

Quote: Quote: Quote: Hawks should make a run at James Posey. He opted out in Boston. I would offer a 4 yr 26 Million dollar deal. Right after we signed Josh Childress. Then of course, I would start shopping Marvin. Posey brings good defense and good three point shooter and now Championship experience. He'd be a good guy to have on our young team. We could take that (almost) 7 mil a year, and get 2 good veterans. We wouldn't be able to fill our roster unless we resign all of our old players and go over the luxury tax. Just for grins... What 2 good vets are you talking about? I didn't have anybody in particular in mind. The point is..we could sign two players with the 7 mil we'd be overpaying Posey with. We'll only have like 8 players (if we resign both Joshes) on our roster, and paying Posey 7 mil for 4 years would only make our cap situation much worse than it is, and wouldn't make our team a whole lot better to justify it.

  15. I know the idea of a 6'7" PG sounds great, but I just can't see us adding another bad shooter to our lineup. He also might not able to guard PGs after such an injury. I don't know, but it just doesn't sound good to me.
  16. Quote: Quote: Salim is simply not a very good player (sorry JB)...He's a one trick pony and he often misses the trick. He will do well at the YMCA. Adios Amigo. another BK draft mistake. from draft analysis: Defense: Largely undistinguished defender. Limited by his size, quickness, poor wingspan, and lack of effort. and that's why you're a Hawks fan. There are plenty one dimensional players in thie league but they have coaches that know how to use them and define their single role on the team.We have a horrible coach that has no clue and it just makes Salim and others look awful. You can't blame Mike Woodson because Salim didn't make shots.
  17. Quote: I dont think he was given a true chance to succeed. Woody put tons of pressure on him when he said "Salim needs to hit shots to stay on the court". Basically, you miss a shot and Im benching you. I thought Salim played with a good basketball IQ, hustled, and definately had the range that we needed. The Golden State game this year is a perfect example of something we should have been doing during Salim's entire tenure. I blame Woody for misusing him (along with the rest of our bench, and JJ's minutes). While I agree Woodson didn't make the best of his bench, you've got to realize that Salim just isn't a good (enough) player. We needed him to hit shots, and Woodson gave him plenty of opportunities to come into the game and hit shots. His jumpshot was vastly overrated, and his defense is worse than Bibby's. He had no ability to play the PG position, and is entirely too small to play the SG position. I would rather his spot on the bench be filled with a veteran player, definitely.

Quote: Quote: "I don't want to say we're confident, but I will say that we're optimistic that we'll re-sign Josh, and also Josh Childress, and that we want to continue to make progress and take the next step with this team," said Atlanta GM Rick Sund. "Josh Smith is an important part of our team, just as Josh Childress is." Wow, did Rick Sund really say that? If so, I'd like to see the link. WTF this really doesn't sound good. We better not let Josh Smith go without being compensated appropriately.
  20. Quote: Quote: (Long shot) Indiana Pacers New Jersey Nets Chicago Bulls (Don't waste your Vegas Money) Charlotte Bobcats New York Knicks I'll respectfully disagree, although I'm curious what you think the roster will be. The Bobcats have a better chance at making the playoffs than the Nets or Bulls.
  21. Quote: Marvin/Zaza to Washington. Heywood/Stevenson to Atlanta. WHy? Washington does it because they have Nick Young coming back. Nick is going to be a Player at SG. They also have Javale McGee Coming in. IN Zaza, they get another Big who can split time in their three headed monster. IN Marvin they get a guy who can play their Big Forward or SF. Atlanta does it because Stevenson is a defensive stopper and he's a hard worker. Heywood is a better big than Zaza. Having Heywood/Horf/Smoove would be a nice frontcourt. I'd do it if the Wizards added Marquis Daniels (I think that's their PG's name).
  22. Quote: Per minute production it wasn't even close last year, Bynum. It is all an issue of health. I think Horford is built strong enough that he won't ever have injury troubles, I see him as a very consistent player in every sense of the word. Before Bynum got hurt, he was consistently having 20/20 games, man. Bynum is the next transcendent big man, and the only guy I think that would give Dwight Howard problems.
  23. Quote: Insidehoops.... Two NBA teams will take a closer look at Brian Butch in the next few weeks. The former Wisconsin forward will be in Boston next week to participate in the Celtics minicamp. Next month, he'll be at Atlanta's minicamp and then play with the Hawks in the Utah summer league. "He's in a good spot," agent Scott Alexander said. The two offers are attractive to Butch for different reasons. Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Not an great prospect, poor finisher.... but does have size(6'11) and range A sentence from the Draft Express scouting report: Where Butch does look most promising, however, is from the perimeter. He is a prolific shooter and shot a respectable 47.5 % from the field and 34.0% from beyond the arc. He reminds me of Jason Collier..... He's a cheaper version of David Andersen. However, from the tone of his scouting report, he may not make the roster.
