Believe me, I know. But I have a gut feeling that this time will be different. There's no way we blow three Drafts in a row. NO WAY. And with the way this team got run off the court the last two seasons, I can't see the Hawks just standing pat and thinking the fans will be okay with another WLOC statement after we again fail to attract any big free agents. The Hawks brass should understand by now that they are going to have to use the Draft to get their marquee player. If there are teams willing to trade in the top five, the Hawks absolutely have to get involved. Drafting Taurean Prince and saying, "He's the guy we were targeting the whole time", is not gonna get it this time.

And they very much need a positive locker room presence. Their team had plenty of talent but their locker room atmosphere was downright toxic according to reports.

Exactly. The Sixers want vet help. That's the Hawks only way in unless they go 100% Dimitroff (Julio Jones) and give another team a deal they can't refuse.

Updated Prospect Rankings After NBA Combine

This Draft is weak but Malik Beasley in the 2nd Round is insane. Hopefully, other teams go crazy over the international guys and we end up getting a steal. But all of that won't matter if the Hawks trade up and get a player worth building around on this roster. I'm still holding on to the hope that Ingram or Brown will be Hawks after June23rd. Absurd I know, but I have a feeling that the Hawks are going to do something big this Draft -
Updated Prospect Rankings After NBA Combine

No Malik Beasley in the 1st Round? Wow. -
The Hawks player development has been great with D league level players. Now let's see what they can do with Lottery level talent. With their best players in their 30's, the Hawks have to get some star level talent in the queue.
-
Nice to know the Hawks have Brown on their radar. I just hope they are ready to do what it takes to get him here. This is a weak Draft but there are some quality players in the Lottery.

You can't build 'around' Horford. You can build with a guy like Horford all day every day. If Bud, Wilcox, and the owners don't get that, there will NEVER be an NBA Championship coming to Atlanta. Oh, and 'continuity' is the new WLOC.
-
True, it's not a one way deal. That's why it may sting to have to let go of some valuable assets. Find out what it would take for those teams in the top 5 to let go of those picks and decide if it's worth it. If the Hawks see a guy they can legit build around, make the sacrifice(s) necessary to get him here and then build around him. But if the Hawks already think they have their centerpiece on the current roster, especially after how the last two seasons ended, than it's all moot.
-
Unfortunately, that's the kind of move it's going to take to get a star here if we can't attract free agents. At this point, I'm all in favor of the Hawks doing what they need to do to get a star on this roster. It may sting a little to give up current players or future assets, but something has to be done. Whether it's Simmons, Ingram, or Brown , I really don't care, just get them here.
-
I like Prince but I like Brandon Ingram a whole lot better. I'd like to see the Hawks do something exciting in the Draft for once.

WLOC in full force. Those who don't learn from the past are doomed to repeat it and right about now I feel like I'm stuck in a time loop.

This goes right along with my thoughts that the Hawks should blow it up. I wasn't clear on that during my post. I'm tired of half measures and somehow trying to build on what we have. I've seen this before during the late 80's, 90's, and with JJ's Hawks. Unless Durant walks through that door, this team is pretty much stuck where it's at. I've grown weary of futility.
-
...which was run right into the trap just like the Cavs knew he would. I will say his decision making fits right in with the rest of this team's during crunch time, so maybe he is the future.
-
I'm weary of Teague's apathy and I can't trust Dennis to make good decisions consistently or keep his emotions under control. Find takers for both and trade whoever to the highest bidder. Use one or both to trade up in the Draft. This is a great time to hit the reset button and get some players worth building with/around.

Maybe not at the start, but I remember him giving the staring 5 a quick hook after a bad start.
-
True, but Pop has done similar to Hall Of Famers when he feels they aren't giving 100%. I'm not sure that approach would work with a fragile Hawks team though. They would just pout.

Man I hope so. It's sad that my expectations are so low, but I'd love to see a repeat of that Celts series. I made it to a few of those games and the Philips crowd was as into those games as any Hawks game I've seen. That Hawks team was flawed but pretty scrappy, at least on home court.
