How could we do a trade?

It is great to propose these trades to help the team.

However, you are forgetting one important thing, both ownership groups would have to agree to the trade.

Also, wasn't it mandated in the courts that we couldn't get anyone that has longer then one year on their contract?

Anyways, Belkin or the current ownership will never be on the same page for any trades.

Unfortunately we are stuck with the team we have.

the AS can do anything they want as long as the contract they take on does not extend longer than 4 years.

So they don't have to get Belkin's approval whatsoever in any trade? Then WTF are we waiting for!! Must be because the AS is broke then.

I am not sure how many times we have to go over this again and again but the ASG stands to lose every penny it invests in this team going forward if Belkin wins on every issue on the appeal. Hence, as long as the Belkin saga is hanging over us, the ASG is not going to invest money they could end up losing. Put another way, they are not going to spend millions to enrich Belkin. This is why Belkin fought to avoid a speedy resolution of the appeal. The longer the time runs, the more negotiating leverage he has on the ASG in a buyout and the more money he makes on appreciation, payment of debt and payment of operating costs on the team.

It is not as simple as saying "will the ASG spend the money"? It is more like "will they spend the money when they know that spending money could be putting money in Belkin's pocket"?

To further suppoert your point:

here is espn.com’s John Hollinger’s answer to a question from earlier today that summarizes ownership concerns:

** Matt (Boston): Why aren’t the Hawks major players in the trade market… They have young talent, a top player in Joe Johnson, and a great defensive player in Josh Smith.

John Hollinger: Everything is on hold until the ownership snafu gets settled. If the current owners lose the team, as it seems they might, then the obvious thing to do is manage the team for the short-term and extract as much profit as possible. Which means deals that take on contracts are strictly verboten. **

There are not profits. They made a debt payment this summer and another one is due sometime soon... Belkin is exempt from making them. I don't think the TV contract is big enough to make us any profits because we have no nationally televised games.

I had hoped that this offseason we would make a big move like getting AI at least that way, next year, we'd be televised nationally at least 2 times.

He is off but the principle between trying to minimize losses and maximize profits is the same. We need the Belkin handcuffs taken off of this team!
